This is a long post, but the length is necessary to describe the following usability issue:
NextPVR Version 3.5.7 appears to not properly manage a tuner lock on an HDHomerun Model: HDHR4-2US.
Discussion:
I have two computer systems that access the HDHomerun tuner:
System 1 – used exclusively for recording TV and always using tuner 0
System 2 – used exclusively for watching TV, always using tuner 1, and locked with system IP address
Update: System 2 uses VLC to view the TV stream, and is invoked via a CMD batch file.
If System 2 is using tuner1 on the HDHomerun device and NextPVR on System 1 needs that tuner for recording, NextPVR does not appear to know that it is locked by another IP address.
The end result is that no data is recorded and – more importantly – no errors are displayed by NextPVR - at least, none that I can find.
I understand that I create the problem by asking NextPVR to record using a tuner in use by another system, but trying to determine why there is no data being recorded is often very difficult after the fact. The reason being that: I do not always remember exactly when I start and stop watching TV on System 2.
Even if I have created the problem, I still believe that NextPVR should display some sort of error message on the GUI screen for that recording, such as is displayed when the recording is cancelled early. I have attached a screen print of that screen as an example.
That error message should indicate something to the effect that a needed tuner was locked and not available for recording.
In preparation for the new fall TV schedule, I have gone through and setup season pass for all of the shows we want recorded. All but one of them worked fine, and I see the associated episodes under Pending Recordings. The only show I had trouble with was Survivor. When I try to record all new episodes, or just all episodes on this channel, it saves the job but does not highlight episodes in red in the guide, and no episodes show up under pending recordings. There are no conflicts for that timeslot, and if I do a quick record, it successfully adds the individual episodes to the pending recordings - just not with season pass. I am using Schedules Direct - zip code 14301, and tried on both WIVB-HD and CIII-DT. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
I have had NEXTPVR installed for a while now (running well) but wasn't able to use it much as I didn't have a great antenna. Today I installed a decent antenna, updated my schedules direct info (had to install the nshared.dll patch to get schedules direct to work) and it was working but sometimes didn't tune to a channel, just had a black screen.
I restarted the computer and I now get the "Unable to communicate with recording service" error.
I am using windows 7 with HD home run as the tuner. I am able to view channels with the HD Homerun software but not NEXTPVR.
I have read some threads saying to just turn on the recording service but I do not see where to do this. I see the nrecord.exe but windows wont let me double click on it to run it. I have also tried what someone suggested typing nrecord.exe RUN in the cmd line which returned the "this is not a command".
I also can't seem to find the logs, there is nothing in the C: Users/users/public the only thing in there is C/users/public/recorded tv There is not a nextpvr folder or any logs.
It has come around to time to add "yet more" TB's recording space to our NextPVR server but I am WAY out of date (around ten years now) as to the situation with different HDD manufactures reliability etc. let alone which type (Desktop, NAS, Red, Blue, Black etc.) is the best, most reliable & most cost efficient way to go these days?? Some advice & recommendations would be very very much appreciated.
After watching live TV or watching a recording and stop or ctrl-s is done, 90% of the time the program drops back to the guide or the main menu. The other 10% it goes to a black screen and is "locked up." A shutdown of the desktop and a restart will fix the problem. The last time it did this I did not restart and did a zip of the logs.
Any ideas?
I'm working on a Tizen port of this App which is needed for 2015 Samsung TV's. I have a reliable way of playing either HD or SD recordings, but the process is different. Is there a simple way in javascript of identifiyng the H.264 encoded video so that I can handle it appropriately.
I've been having a small problem for a while and wondered if anyone else experiences something similar?
After a program has been recorded, during playback approximately between 4 - 5 minutes in, there is a glitch in the playback where approx. 5 seconds of audio/video are lost.
The "glitch" is in the recorded file and happens irrespective of what the file is played back on so the "glitch" is happening during recording.
It seems to happen on almost all recordings but once playback passes the "glitch", there's no evidence of any other problems for the rest of the recording.
The glitch is always about 4-5 minutes into the recoding.
Does anyone else see this?
Sub: Is there anything that happens at that sort of time into a recording (or maybe when the file reaches a particular size?)? Most of my recordings are 1080p HD.
The system uses a SSD for recording so disk speed and I/O rate aren't a problem and as I say, it's always about the same point where the "glitch" occurs in a recorded file.
I have Next PVR running as backend for a Kodi client. When I go to record a show in Kodi it shows the recording is scheduled and then after about 15 seconds shows "Timer Deleted".
In Next PVR I set up a recording for a show and it shows are red in the EPG like it is recording but then it never actually records. I am not sure where I have gone wrong.
Any suggestion greatly appreciated and logs are attached.
Since yesterday I have not been able to get JSON based EPG data for the guide. It always returns "Error retrieving EPG data!". There are no listings returned at all. Below is the xvmc.log related to the request and I attached the JSON that is returned from the server. I was able to switch to SOAP and it worked, but took several minutes to process. Any ideas? Everything was fine several days ago and nothing in the configuration in NextPVR has changed.
