It's actually called something like "Microsoft .NET framework 2.0"

Ok, I can't find a specific entry for .net 1.1 in the removal tool. I recently "upgraded" to SP2. Might it be hidden "in there"?
Anyhow, the question remains. How to uninstall .net Framework 2.0 and reinstall .net 1.1

Yes, that would be one major reason why it's not appearing in the choice of things to uninstall!
