I'm not sure what's going on here but i've just transcoded 2 films and noticed that although I have the full film recorded, when both were converted, one is 1:43:33 and the other is 1:43:32 in length.

Does ffmpeg have a limit as to the input file size as that's about all that I can think of, ffmpeg reading the first 2GB and then assuming eof? The output files are 1.2 and 1.5GB.

The gbpvr recording log indicates that the file transcode completed and thus doesn't offer any help there.

Anyone got any suggestions for this please?

David.

All I can suggest is trying to run the ffmpeg conversion manually to see if it encounters any errors. You can find the command line in the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log file.

Yes i'm going to do that. I'm off out of the country for a few days and figured I'd copy a few films to my Archos only to find that they're short. I'll have a play when i'm away and see what's up. I didn't know if it was a known issue that someone was going to pop in with an instant answer for. Smile

Thanks
David.

Ok, i've just encoded another film, input length 1:48 and this too has stopped at 1:43:33, just short of the end of the film. Is anyone else able to encode films longer?! Smile

No errors on the output, in fact this is the only output:-

I have done a little more playing and thought I'd feed back in the results.

I encoded the same file using mencoder, which created a 1.7GB file, full length movie but media player wouldn't play it, divx player threw up an error, xvid player loaded the file but no video and it didn't play although it indicated the right film length.

This convinced me that that there's a 1GB limit on the produced AVI so I re-encoded the same film with both ffmpeg and mencoder set to produce a <1GB file.

Both of these were the full movie and played back fine.

I wasn't aware of this limit on AVI files and i'm surprised that it hadn't been commented on. The next challenge is to find a set of settings that gives me the best quality on shorter programmes while not generating an oversize file for the longer films.
