When I tried this, the Hauppauge remote software threw an application error, but GBPVR works fine. So a few tips with this card:
1. Get it working by itself first, this way you can make sure the PCI slot you put it in works with the remote.
2. Pull the HVR 1600 out of the box and install all other cards first
3. Insert HVR 1600 and install last. (drivers and IR32 application)

Subject: RE: HVR1600 Remote issues

Please tell me you're not using wintv. This may not be supported under our
application/drivers. When you install a 500 on top of one with the
remote...the drivers sort of cancel out the previous install. I don't know
if this will work, but install the 500 first then install the other one. You
might get lucky.

Hauppauge's tech support is absolutely no help. I would say, don't waste your time. I have a problem with WintV crashing and I've been trying to get their help now for nearly two months. I've sent them probably 6-7 e-mails. They cannot offer a solution, nor will they explain all the "weird" problems I had... as in after installing it and running it for the first time it perpetually crashed my system three times in a row. Gb-Pvr is so much better. It's not as direct or clear, but you will find that it will be much more reliable and ultimately do more.

Yeah... if you use the clear program (hwclear, I think) off of the cd and then install the new update off of the internet it will get you much more reliable drivers, but it won't fix everything. I still think there's a problem with the driver personally... it glitches abnormally. Furthermore, I know this is going to sound really stupid, but check to see how far your remote sensor is plugged in. Take it out and replug it in if you have to.... I had a real weird problem where it was mostly in so it would work sometimes, but not all the time. I thought it was the batteries. Come to find out.... I go push on the cable fairly hard for computer equipment and voila it went in maybe 1/16" more. Make sure you have the divit cut out of the plug facing up so that it can slide in all the way. And obviously, use the config of GBPVR to switch it over to the right remote if you want to use it in gbpvr. If you have any more questions, I wouldn't mind you responding directly via pm. I've been using this program for nearly a month, so I don't have all the answers, but I have dealt with a lot of the stuff for the 1600.

I have a button my keepboard labeled- sleep, and I use it to put my computer into standby. Is there a command that I could use to reprogram the remote so that I could hit it to put my computer into standby. The reason I ask is that if GB-pvr is up my computer will not go into standby on its own. I have to manually close it and then put it into sleep mode. I have already programmed the green button my 45 button remote at the bottom to be the alt-F4 to close the program. I guess I was just trying to be even more lazy. :-)

Related question... is there a way to bring a system out of standby without having to hit the power supply? I know this question is directly linked to Gb-pvr, but I think that my two questions are linked. Just curious.

Uhhh ohhh, I was looking at what I could do with my remote today. I started off by trying to open Gb-pvr, but for whatever reason it wouldn't start it. Then I started trying other buttons and none were working. I opened the program, checked the connection and everything else, but my remote is not working. HELP.... Is there any way to determine what's wrong.... The card vs the cable vs the remote not working. The batteries are good, but like I said it doesn't do anything. It won't open wintv2000 nor will it function in GBPVR... Thoughts??

Any thoughts on trouble shooting a hauppauge remote? Is it the card, cable, or remote itself?

I dont think you're expecting an answer from me on this one, but in case you are - this isnt the sort of thing I could help you with. I dont really know anything about the remote this device uses. I'd be hounding Hauppauge over it if I was you, or possibly ask on the http://www.shspvr.com/smf forums.

Thanks for the response sub. I realize you're busy and wasn't expecting a response from you specifically, but I was hoping for some kind of response. Yeah, Hauppauge is horrible about responding. I'll keep working on it though. Thanks.

First thing, the jack and plug on the remote pickup are known for being really hard to insert, so you might want to unplug and reinsert it.

A guick check of the remote itself is to look at it through a digital camera or camcorder. They see into the near-infrared and will show a blinking LED when you press buttons.

A second Hauppauge tuner card can cause the remote to get lost on the first. I don't remember if you have more than one card installed.

And finally, make sure you are aimimng at the front of the pickup and not the back. I can remember multiple posts (over at shspvr.com) on remote problems that turned out to be people aiming at the back side (myself included .... a long time agoBig Grin)

edit: I'd be interested in a keyboard return from standby method also.

It was something with the remote. A few soft taps and it started working again... I don't understand... I plugged in the cable a couple of times and checked it some more, but it randomly started working. I don't get it. Oh well I have the remote working now. I just reconfigured the ini file. So now it will start GB-PVR on green power button and then if it's open it will close Gb-pvr with the same button. :-) I'm still looking for a way to revive it from sleep mode via the remote as well as send it into standby mode with a single button.
