I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to 1.0.16 so I could continue to get EPG updates using Schedules Direct. Things have mostly been working out ok except this past Friday GB-PVR has started acting a bit strange.

On Friday night I had some strange problems with gb-pvr crashing when I tried to run the configuration utility and gb-pvr's tray icon looked like a TV rather then the normal circle / recording status icon, clicking on the icon gave a Recording Status window similar to what I show below with 8 different capture sources identified with no real input. To fix the problem I uninstalled gb-pvr, deleted the program directory and started from scratch.

After that I was able to start recording show once again. However, the problem has come back tonight.

When I reboot my computer now the recording service does not start properly, I have a small icon in my tray area (next to the clock) that is a small TV icon instead of the noral GB-PVR record status icon. When I double left click on this icon I get a "Recording Status" window that lists the following:

Quote:Capture Source #1:
Tuner1:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Capture Source #2:

I have never seen this display before this past Friday. When I tried to run the Configuration utility the program crashes with a Microsoft .NET Framwork error that says:

Quote:"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the applicaiton will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 8, position 32."

If I click Details I get the following:

Quote:See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

The only thing I can say that I have done is that during a recording of a show tonight I tried to run the config utility, this caused a crash similar to the above messages. After that, I haven't been able to get the program to work again.

Also, I did notice there was a windows update on Friday on this PC with some updates to the .Net framework files, so perhaps this is connected to the problem.

I am running Windows 2000 on an AMD64 processor with a PVR-150 card. GB-PVR in one version or another has been running pretty much flawlessly for me for over 18 months on this PC up until now. (well and a few hiccups with Schedules Direct but that's working ok now)

Hope you can help,

Thanks,
Gary

It looks like you've somehow managed to break your config.xml file.

Zip and attach that file and I'll take a look.

Oh wow.. very well could be.. I was modifying the ffmpeg settings for iPod video encoding.

This is the one line I was editing:

<Conversion name="Video Ipod" cmd="-y -maxfr 30 -i {SOURCE_FILE} -title {TITLE_SUBTITLE} -bitexact -vcodec h264 -coder 0 -bufsize 256 -g 250 -vlevel 13 -fixaspect -s 640x480 -b 600 -maxrate 768 -qmin 2 -qmax 51 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -ab 64 -f ipod {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".mp4" />

Thanks,

Gary

Just did some more playing around with this, thanks for pointing out the config.xml problem.

Their does indeed seem to be a problem with my ipod parameters. They work fine when I run ffmpeg from the command line (I'm using a different version of ffmpeg than what you package) but when I try to use them with gbpvr I am getting the crashing.

I went back to the original config.xml file and things are fine.

Now that I know where my mistake is I can tweak it to figure this out, I think I am ok for now.

Thanks very much for the help.
