I don't know about news shows since their description never changes, but hashing the shows title and description should give you a unique ID for virtually everything else. Maybe that would be more reliable if in the future this becomes a problem for other shows.

No, thats not good enough. Heaps of shows just use generic descriptions. I've even seen shows like Friends just using generic descriptions. The description cant be relied on.

Channel 24 (Spike) at 8:00 and 8:30 am according to the stock TV guide in GBPVR.
