andrew_macaluso Wrote:Okay, it seems that I have a new issue. No matter what settings in GBPVR I select I seem to use a massive amount of processor power. I use about 30-40% on one of my processor cores. Now... this is a brand spanking new machine!!! I am not using a P3 or something like that!
Yeah this will just relate to your current combination of video renderer and video decoder, and whether the video decoder you're using is capable of utilitising the MPEG2 accelleration features of your video card.

Well my machine says it has is a Nero decoder and Intervideo NonCSS decoder. What else can I install and use and how can I go about doing that?

You'll get the biggest drop in CPU from a decoder that'll use the MPEG2 hardware accelleration features of your video card. I cant give you a definitive list of all decoders that will do this, but the big name ones will: nvidia, cyberlink, intervideo. I dont think the OEM NonCSS version you're using does this - though maybe there are some obscure registry settings for enabling...

I'm not sure whether dscaler does this or not.

You'll also find that Overlay uses less CPU that VMR.

Nvidia decoder uses about the same cpu as dscaler on my system, so i guess it does sub?

Out of interest andrew, what cpu and version of directx are you using? And have you tried the quartz.dll fix- only applies to directx 9.0c? (Try another decoder first tho!)

Okay...

Sorry Jim Bob, I missed your first post about decoders. That helped out a lot and I'll look into all of those.

In the mean time... I found that VMR7 seems to give really good results and I'm not sure why I missed it before. It seems to have solved all of my problems except the CPU overuse. But, it seems to hover around %20 so I think I will live with that for now. Overlay seemed to give good results, too, but, my video card acted very strangely with that mode and I'll just leave it at that!

Thank you, everyone. I am really only getting a taste of what this program can do and I am finally starting to settle down with it! You have all been extremely helpful and I look forward to having more problems so I can come back!
