Yeah, its definitely a bit odd. People dont usually need to install anything else.

I'm wondering if need to install the DirectX9 runtime to get the VMR9 renderer. Usually people wouldnt need to do this, but I'm wondering if you've uninstalled something in the past that has removed it.

I'm 1/2 way through downloading that just as I read this. It said in the docs you "might " want to download it if you want or something like that. So I didn't bother. But now I'm bothering. I've got my fingers crossed.

And the outcome of downloading and installing DirectX9.0b is no difference at all.

It's as if the DirectX 9.0 is not there after installing it.....

I'd try downloading GraphEdit, running it, selecting 'Insert Filter' from the menu, expanding the 'directshow' category, check that "Video Mixing Renderer 9" is listed. If it is, try selecting it then hit the 'insert filter' button.

It was listed alright, but I got this message when trying to insert it.

"The filter could not be created. Resources used by this filter may already be in use.
Either DirectDraw has nat been installed or the video card capabilities are not suitable.
Make sure the display is not in 6 color mode. (Return code 0x80040273)"

And I can confirm I'm not in 16 color mode.

Does this bring me back full circle to the original question.
I wonder if anyone has this sort of thing going on the Sapphire HD2600XT?

The sapphire 2600XT worked with VMR9 for me.
I had driver issues though, as this was the AGP version.

Thanks

Hmmm sounds like something screwy with your windows setup, rather than just a GB-PVR problem. I'm not really sure what you'd do to rectify it though.

I'm running a Sapphire HD2600Pro, which is pretty damn close to the same hardware. I dont think its your video card or its drivers, but rather something missing from your Windows install.

Right, I can get GBPVR insatalled and playing live TV now. I _think_ I know how this problem came about.

And there was no DIRECT X support no matter how many or whatever DIRECT X drivers I loaded.

To fix it I reformatted the hard-drive and started from scratch.
This time however I removed the TV card (HVR-4000) and got everything else going first. (Including updating any drivers.) And then only after this did I install the TV card. So my theory is that starting with a virgin system with the TV card alredy plugged in is not a good idea.

Well that's my theory anyway, but going now (apart from playing back a recording causes the PC to freeze but haven't searched forums on this problem yet).
