Hi,

I bought an INNODV usb2 external tv card a while back. I plan to use a satellite dish to rececive the signal via a decoder. Is the tv card adequate, and how do I navigate the GB PVR menus(what remote?), and do I install the software which came with the tv card.

Many thanks,
Dion

It probably won't work. I couldn't find much info on that device, but I'm guessing it doesn't have a hardware MPEG-2 encoder. That is mandatory for GB-PVR (except for a few Hauppauge devices that are expirementally supported with Hauppauge's SoftMCE encoder).

Yes, the advice is usually to install and test the software that came with the card. That ensures the drivers get installed correctly, and may also install some useful audio/video playback decoders. That said, all that is necessary is to install the drivers.

As to a remote, there are numerous choices. Any of the MCE remotes will work (the ones intended to be used with Windows Media Center). GB-PVR has explicit support for the Hauppauge remotes. You can also use pretty much any remote with the USB-UIRT receiver. There's also something called a RedRat3 on the config page, but I have no idea what it is.

On the assumption that I'm right that your INNODV card won't work, your best bet will be to buy a Hauppauge tuner that includes a remote.

I just found the manual and it says "InnoDV is a portale TV and Video capture solution for pc. It provides TV watching and performing MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 realtime software video recording directly from TV-tuner, VCR video out, camcorders etc..." Is this what you were looking for? Does not sound like hardware MPEG-2 encoding?

But you could try the Software Recorder plugin, there is a thread here about getting it to work, I think the thread had the title "New card". If you have a fairly strong cpu it should work, not the best solution but your money will not be completly wasted Wink
