I'm using DScaler 5.006 as my filter of choice to playback mpeg2 files. It does an absolutely outstanding job of deinterlacing and when I play a video through Media Player Classic, it's crisp, clear and the movement is fluid even with interlaced film sources which seems to be difficult. ffdshow offers a lot of deinterlacers and I've tried them all, and IMHO, they don't stack up to DScaler.

Anyway, if I use GB-PVR to playback the same video (fullscreen, window, doesn't matter), sometimes it's great, sometimes it sucks. If i start the movie and let it run from the beginning, everything is perfect. If i skip forward once, it's usually still ok. But if i skip forward twice or three times or more, the picture will get VERY "jittery". I'm not sure how else to describe it, I don't think I'm dropping frames, but I get tearing and almost a "bouncing" effect during movement.

This SAME exact effect happens in timeshift mode tv (obviously, same filter).

Also, if i turn on "Deinterlace Filter" for Live Preview, i get the same issue. I believe the deinterlace filter is just a portion of DScaler correct?? If so, I guess it would make sense that the symptoms are the same.

Any suggestions?
I've got brand new ATI drivers (downloaded today actually). Turned off antivirus, moved swapfile, defragged, killed all other apps, VMR9/7/Overlay, nothing helps.

Again, this works GREAT in Media Player Classic.

Thanks,

Jason

Mine does that sometimes, just pause it or rewind the recording seems to fix it for me. It's not a gbpvr thing for me, as it is the same in another pvr software.

I have the same problems as herbs and jcromes.

I am using the Xcards' TV out, so I'm using hardware decoding rather than software. When I use the FF or skip more than once, I notice occasional jumps, stutters and bouncing. The only way to clear this problem, is to go back to the guide, then select my channel from there. If I then leave it alone and watch the show, it is not nearly as bad.

I also seem to have problems when I enter the channels using the number keys on my Hauppauge remote. When I do this, the video jumps and stutters as though I was using software. It's not quite as bad if I use the up and down channel keys on the remote.

One other anamoly is if I'm using the Xcard for hardware decoding and I choose the GBPVRs' Exit option, the screen stays up and just sits there. The only way I can quit is to use ctrl-alt-del and kill the GBPVR.EXE process.

Is anyone else having these problems, especially the exiting problem?

It looks as if theproblem may be related to DScaler itself.

I'll keep experimenting. Damn, dscaler is so sweet, i wish it was ready for primetime.

I'm afraid it's not a Dscaler isssue for me as I have the problem with any installed mpeg2 codec. It's not much of a pain for me as I'm the only user and pressing a button twice is not a big deal.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

If you read further on in that thread, there is a guy who posts a solution. Apparently there is a small bug in the DirectX 9.0c quartz.dll library which causes deinterlacing issues for some filters. After I followed his tip (reverted to older version of quartz.dll) DScaler is gorgeous in GBPVR no matter how i flip around in the video.

The live TV "Deinterlace Filter" is a bit blocky and isn't as clean as the videos that DScaler plays, but that is probably because there is no smoothing implemented in their open source Deinterlacing code.

Anyway, I'm happy now. If anyone is interested in the core of the problem, follow the link provided by the guy who gave the solution. It's on the snapstream forum. It is definitely an issue experienced by a lot of people - seems to be partially dependent on the video card and not just the capture.

SUB - any way to get the smoothing of DScaler into the LiveTV deinterlace?

Well, i just checked the source code and it doesn't look like it's an option. I didn't see anything glaring in the headers to make me think so anyway.
