groover km Wrote:After sub's help above, this is what I changed mine to - note the higher bitrate and the 'k' :

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 5000k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 25 -s 352x288 -f svcd "{DEST_FILE}"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>
<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE

Hope this helps.

Many thx. I still find the transcoded video too choppy, so I'll keep investigating

Just curious: Isn't 5000 very high for a svcd. When you some math it compares to 20000 for full dvd format.
This is also interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SVCD
and this one ofcourse: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC10
I'm trying to find docs on the new ffmpeg, does anyone have a link?

Edit: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC24
I think it updated 10 mins agoSmile . I checked 15 mins ago, it was dated januari 2006. Now it's dated 28-12-2006.

That's my 'tampered' setting; originally I think it was 2500. I just upped it and upped it until I got a decent quality on the majority of the ones I tried, and it wasn't too much of a sweat on the machine.

@Groover km.
Forgot to ask you before. Is there a particular reason you are using PAL. I thought USA was NTSC country? Your MVP would be set to ntsc(right?) no problems with 25 fps?

Erm.... you're right. I am using NTSC. In a rush, I copied the wrong line out of the config.xml file.

It was <cough> a test to see if anyone was paying attention <cough>...

You might want to be careful with those coughs, before you catch anything serious.Wink

I may be too thick but, what is the sentence in config.xml that controls the "Auto convert MPEG Recordings to XviD"? is the one starting with:

<CustomFFmpegConversions>
<Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE}

or

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 64000k -ac 2 -ab 128 -asp

Thx

Finally got it to work. If anyone is interested, these are my settings:

<Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 160 -ac 2 -acodec mp3 -qmin 1.1 -qmax 1.5 -s 352x288 -r 25 -deinterlace -vcodec xvid -b 1296k -bt 1000k -aspect 4:3 -vtag XVID {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />

Smooth video in 352x288 (I intend to watch it on an Archos 604), 1286kb bitrate, 25fps, QF 507 bits per pixel
