thanks for responses.

yes the red LED does flicker when commands sent...

thanks cameluk for the photo - i'll try similar position, although i did try all over the place last night. i even got my camcorder and used the night vision to see where the sensor is (and it seems to be about the middle top of your bit of sellotape!)

not sure what the benefit of trying the GUI is? neither that or command line seem to do anything, anyways!

will keep trying, but am losing faith!!!

I was thinking of the GUI demo application as a way of definately ensuring the correct commands were sent and that the device was setup correctly for RC5. I think that you have to set the IR type within the first few commands after the PC is turned on each time (i.e. there is a chance you didnt actually alter the IR type). I may be recalling incorrectly (been nearly two years now) but the demo application may actually tell you what RC type the device is set to.

How many times does the LED flash when the computer is turned on? I think it is once for Pace type, twice for RC5 and three times for Sky (the two page PDF technical manual on the download page explains.

I think I have exhausted my supply of info on this topic now - let us know how you get on.

appreciate your input.

yes, i think the ir type must be set within the first 7 commands sent to it, otherwise is ignored.

hmm. not sure about the flashing when PC is turned on. i'll test that when i get home.

also (possibly fairly stupidly...) i haven't rebooted since installing - i see no reason to do this, but then again, i am running windows...

nah, is no good. no matter where i put it or what i use (redeye2.exe or gui), nothing changes on the set top box.

is the signal from these things that weak that the position has to be spot on? if i'd just seen at least one char change once, i'd have hope...

reckon using a usb-RS232 cable is ok? (my m/b has com1/2 connectors on board, but no module to connect - maybe i test with a laptop...)

ok, is usb cable - works ok direct to serial port on laptop....

i have an asus M2NPV-VM motherboard with all slots used! what do i do? (have 2 x pci hauppauge cards and 1xpcie vga) - no free slots...
can i somehow cable direct from the motherboard com connectors? man, this is annoying :-)
(the serial module isn't bundled with the m/b!)

thanks for the help.

one last small question - the samsung box seems to change channel using the ! as a separator between the 3 digit channel numbers - how do you go about this (as {channel} is all on one string)....?

Hi,

I only use the {channel} and do not use the ! at all. This appears to be succesful for me. I cannot remember if I use redeye2.exe or redeye.exe - one of these did not work for me very well.

I remember 'googling' redeye2 and also using the tgbpvr forum searh on redeye2 to find how other people had used it, some had used slightly different command lines, but I appear to only need the default.

I think the redeye is automtically programmed for different pauses between digits when you select the apprpriate IR mode - however I guess each device may vary a bit. I did have to turn the 'now and next' guide off though as this did affect the accuracy of receiving the signal.

thanks for info, once again. so long as something getting sent to the box successfully, i can have a play.

using the GUI, sending 1!0!1 seemed better than 101 but when my card turns up, i'll experiment.

cheers for help
