I have one more question. I have an ehome infrared receiver that is installed to my computer, but i have no remote for it. does anyone know of a replacement remote that will work for this receiver? and will this receiver work with gbpvr?

yep, it'll work with any remote if you use HIP...i'm using both a mce and MVP remote with mine..if you have a favorite remote, you can learn it's codes with the mce dongle and HIP
there's a guide on the wiki for setting up HIP but i don't think you'll need most of it..
just install hip, add gbpvr keys, and learn your remote's codes for those keys...if you're blasting to a box to change channels, hip can do that for you too, just have to learn the codes for the box you want to control..

i can give you a HIP profile to start from that has all the keys in it, then teach it your remote's codes for each and you'd be set..
HIP looks daunting till you get what's going on..it's really pretty simple..

Thank you and yes, I would appreciate any help you are willing to share. I think I have a few remotes that may work. I am looking for an inexpensive qam tuner card right now on ebay, and I think I'm going to have to spend more than I wanted to for a QAM card. oh well... anyway, Ill look into that guide on the wiki.


on a side note, I spent a combined total of fortyfive dollars on indoor antennas (im cheap ) and got a combined total of 1 analog and 3 digital tv stations. none of them were the locals i need, so I returned them. Then I went home and made an antenna out of four pieces of hanger, a piece of wire, a piece of 1x3, and a coax connector. And I get 18 digital channels and two analog!! and all of my local programming, OMG! can you Imagine what I might pick up with an actual aerial on the roof.

You don't need QAM support if you're tuning Over-The-Air. OTA is commonly called 'ATSC', although QAM is just as much ATSC as OTA is... it's a whole mixed-up nomenclature thing. Anyhow, if a tuner says it does ATSC, that's what you need. Having QAM support sure can't hurt though, just in case you get digital cable later on.

The KWorld ATSC-340u I use is very similar to this one here for only $30:

That hardware does QAM, although it is unclear whether the GB-PVR can use this tuner for QAM (QAM tuning is less standardized than OTA)... but I promise it works great for OTA digital in GB-PVR.

If you want to be certain you'll have QAM support w/GB-PVR it's best to go with a Hauppauge device. They do cost a little more than the KWorld, but they're usually a sure thing.

Oh yeah, the huappauge that I had worked great, and composite in was nice too. I actually just bought a HAUPPAUGE WINTV-HVR-1600 NSTC / ATSC / QAM HP 5188-7111.. It is on the list of compatible digital cards. Cost about sixty bucks shipping included. not a bad deal, and a dual tuner at that. should be here in a few days.

Thank you for the advice though. I was looking at those usb tuners but I was trying to stay, away as I have priors for snapping off usb connections accidentally. :o

Hey. while I'm here. I have a gateway infrared receiver, it shows as ehome receiver in hardware manager. and a few remotes from dvb-s cards and one from a viewsat ultra remote. can I get these to work together with gbpvr?
