The fact that Goggle TV codec support is actually less than the NMT A1x0 support today has kept me from ordering it even at $99 I will wait for the reviews of Honeycomb. It would be a step backward. More importantly with Intel getting out of the embedded marked I think I might wait to see what the chipset will be in the next gen machines. If they move to ARM it will open it up.

Thought I would post this.....Logitech will not provide any devices past the Revue to support Google TV.

"Logitech CEO Guerrino De Luca threw Google under the bus in a conference call with analysts and investors on Thursday, first reported by The Verge. De Luca cited the failed launch of Google TV as the primary reason why Logitech had disappointing Q1 financials; the company reported nearly $30 million in losses for the quarter. In part, Google TV contributed significantly to losses of “Well over $100 million in operating profits.”

As a result, Logitech is jumping ship. De Luca said the company has “no plans to introduce another box to replace Revue,” and will let its existing inventory run down to zero. It’s massive damage control for “[executing] a full scale launch with a beta product [which] cost us dearly,” as De Luca put it."

The news hasn't been good for anyone these past few months. The writing was on the wall for Logitech when Intel dropped the chip that was in the Revue, you can only lose so much on a product. The recent news that Adobe is dropping Flash is the one that bit me, after I debated moving to flash on Syabas for a year and after going through the bother of learning ActionScript. To add salt to the wound the Syabas player support is pathetic and I get left with squat. For business this would be a killer. Maybe I will try Android, right now I am just not sure.

There's way too much choice right now (a good post on the state here http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27915) but understanding the market is impossible. I can currently get Netflix on my TV 4 ways (Samsung's SmartHub, BD player, Boxee Box and via PlayOn) and Netflix isn't that great. Sales of specialized extenders are falling because the $100 price point seems to be important. I can't believe the number of users here willing to convert media to meet the limitations of their player. The HTPC world is shrinking too as users are pushed to move to Windows Media Centre because of DRM and because of the complexities of HTPC. NextPVR isn't quite stable enough either, fortunately I am mainly a live tv and music users so restarting the recording service isn't a big deal. Regardless I think the fact that very few PCH users tried to get GBPVR running shows how niche a product TV playback is.

So UJB, when are you going to redo NEWA in HTML5?

My family has really likes our Revue, but it is really a beta unit. It should have been held back untill Honeycome 3.1 and the market was available. Its android all over again. First version wast not that well polished. I believe the ARM based Google TV units will bring it into the right price point to sell, but time will tell. But i agree an HTML5 interface to NPVR would be great and would work on multiple platforms including GoogleTV.

I misread your message at first & thought you were referring to GB-PVR/NextPVR users not taking up the NMT (PCH) extender option & my reply was going to be from observations I have made over the years it looks like a majority of "integrated GB/NextPVR extender users" (MVP/NMT) are old farts like me & we don't jump into new stuff all that quickly also the fact the PCH was not an "off the shelf" item in a lot of countries would have also put a lot of users off (It very nearly did me & my first M34a was the first thing I had ever purchased from overseas & damn expensive by the time it arrived here as well) then there is always the nagging doubt of what happens if anything goes wrong with the hardware & you have purchased from the other side of the world.

As for PCH users not taking up the GB-PVR experience, I have told a lot of people about this experience over the years & I have even been able to show them what it is like on a TV screen & only two (family's) have actually taken up on it & tried it for themselves (they are both hooked now though), even I cocked around playing for over a year myself when I first got into the HTPC game & what I have ended up mainly using after I got everything up & running is TOTALLY different (& much better) to what I thought/planned when I was first setting it up......

Every time I deal with HTPC headaches now I regret selling my SageTV HD300 extenders. They were pretty much the perfect extender only lacking built-in internet services. I sold them because Sage stopped selling them and dropped support for them and the software after the takeover. Damn Google...

This was a good post and I enjoyed the responses.....makes me understand the reason I feel that there is nothing better than my A-100......it is because there really isn't at this point in time.

So UJB, when are you going to redo NEWA in HTML5?

Starting to read up on that now.....but sub will need to make the jump to .Net 4+

sub.....any plans to move from .Net 2.0?
