60hz HDMI LCD TV - A Problem?

yeah buts its a bigger panel

i have not seen any 32 inch panels that do full HD 1920x1080

I thought he was considering the 37"? and when I was looking at mine I'm sure they share the same specs other than panel size ?

he might be now but the first tv he had was 32inch
i was more throwing it out there to see if anyone knew of any 32inch tvs i might have missed looking at and also just pointing out that it seems to get 1:1 pixel mapping you have to go bigger

key points to get good picture on LCD with pal signal
1. be able to use native resolution of lcd panel from pc
2. be able to use 50hz
3. be below 8ms refresh (probably even lower if going above 32inch)
4. hdmi or dvi input for digtal signal

the problem i have is i didnt really want to go bigger

ok i looked again it seems sharp do one but we dont get them in new zealand
i guess cause we dont have hd tv they forget people use them for the computer aswell

i have learnt something today
it doesnt matter that a lcd is 60hz as the screen is always on
where as a crt turns on and off
thats the short reason
read the link its interesting and will help with the understanding of refresh rates etc

that said it is still important to set your video card to multiples of 25 for pal signal or multiples of 30 for ntsc

Interesting, So what you are saying is that the problem is with the Graphics cards not allowing 50hz refresh rates.

I`ve had a quick search on this and I`ve found this website, where there is a registry patch to override the refresh rate, making 50hz available

"Even if your monitor could do 50Hz, many applications think it is "not supported" and therefore prevent you from selecting the mode but give you an incorrect 60Hz version of 720x576 as it is defined by default in the NVIDIA driver. To work round this, use the Refresh Rate Override facility to force 720x576 at 50Hz. To enable the Refresh Rate Override facility, download and merge this registry file."

Anyone got any thought`s on this? If I apply with patch, it won`t damage my LCD, will it??

well i wouldnt be selecting 720x576@50hz
i would try to get the lcd martched as close as i could to native and as long as its multiples of 25 so 50/75/100hz

lcd panels dont like trying spread pixel it causes a blurry picture

so if you can add custom resolutions with that program
try adding the native res of the lcd ie 1366x768(but only if this looked the best you can normally tell when you get it right)


and by the way nvidia lets you add custom resolutions anyway
but it does check to see if the screen will accept them which is fine

I didn`t know, Nvidia allowed you to set custom resolutions, I`ll have to give it a go at 1366x768 @50hz and see what happens. Hopefully it wont damage it.

Unless someone else fancies being the guinea pig :-)

also, lots of panels (mine included) that say their res is 1366x768 actually use 1360x768 when driven over VGA (thats what it went to when I hit the auto sync button) and its not stretching, there are just 3 columns of black pixels on each side of the screen
