Hello,

I'm having a problem related to overscan. I need to force this program to overscan so i don't end up with the following problems:

I would like it to not have the weird edges in all tv modes, viewing, recording ect. I'm using the Hauppage PVR-500. Help?

Possible other important hardware: MB: MSI K8NGM2-FID (outputting to tv via s-video).

TIA

You could try switching to VMR9 instead of VMR9 Custom. It might help.

that took off some... I tried cycling through the overscan options with F7. I am wondering if there's anyway to just "bump" a few pixels off the top.

It mentions it may not work with cyberlink decoder, what exactly doesn't work because i'm using cyberlink codecs.

Is there a way to edit a file (xml maybe) to set a custom option for F7.

You can edit the <AspectRatioModes> tag in config.xml to adjust the default ratios, or add additional one.

By default, most installs of the Cyberlink decoder dont support VMR, so you end up with a couple of wierd things happen, most notably the absense of OSD information. If you can see OSD info, then your Cyberlink install is fine with VMR.

By OSD info do you mean the info that appears at the bottom when I change channels and stuff? Cuz I do see that, is there more I should be seeing? If so thats good to know.

Thanks for the location of the aspect ratios. I'll mess around tomorrow or the next day then post back my findings to let others know.

Thanks for this awesome product (i've tried myth, beyondtv, mediaportal, someone reccomended this, best advice ever).

Yes, thats the OSD, so your Cyberlink decoders should be fine.

Any idea which Cyberlinks work and which don't? The one I tried does not show the OSD but seems to work OK otherwise (not sure of the version offhand). I'd like to be able to use it because it uses a lot less CPU than the others I've tried (mostly Intervideo). If I switch to Overlay I get the OSD but it just doesn't work as well as VMR.

As elite said, look at that link. It only needs a EnableVMR9=1 registry setting to get it working with VMR.

Thanks for the pointer. I have the CLVSD level in the registry but not the GBPVR level under it. I added the two values for VMR but it didn't change anything. I suspect I have an older version of the decoder and/or I'm not using the one I want to use. I have one from PowerDVD but I think it's pretty old. Then I installed one from the Cole pack (IIRC) but I'm not sure if it's actually the one being used. I suspect it's not.

Anyway, I'll do some more research and play with it some more. You guys have pointed me in the right direction, tho.

[Edit] It looks like I have 6.0.1.1921 so it looks like the registry tweaks won't work. Oh well...
