DvD playback issues

Sorry for posting this probably silly sounding question

If I point gb pvr to a directory with a ripped dvd in it it plays back fine

If I put a dvd in the dvd drive and try to play it I get nothing but a black screen
the dvd drives does spin up but nothing happens

What am I doing wrong ? , other software such as media player classic can load and play dvd's fine
The correct drive letter is selected in config , in the Video decoder section it is set to default ( no other options listed ) , also the Audio decoder / render is set to auto.

Am I missing something ? Can anyone help

Its better to explicitly select the decoders you want to use other leaving things on 'system default' - which effectively tells Windows to pick some random decoder.

No Decoders are listed , so which decoder would be best to download ?

For DVD playback, most people endup using the Cyberlink/Intervideo/nvidia decoders, but these are all pay options. There may be some free ones that hand DVD's CSS content, but I'm not sure which ones.
