Just read this : http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/pr_60/17...11823.html

Says it won't accept a PC resolution greater than 1024x768!? A load of cobblers?

The philips TV I`ve got, the manual says the maxium resolution on PC connection is 1024x768.
But it will accept a alot more up to 1920 x 1080, but if go higher than the supported resolution, I think it does some up rating and the fonts dont look as clear as they do on 1024 x 768. So the other resolutions are probably not supported by the manufacturer, even though it will accept it. It may be the same on the Sharp model?

basically your wasting your time going higher
all you are doing is making your video card do more work and the tv will just scale it down with no gain in picture quality

Hi Just checked the specs on the Sharp LCD your thinking of buying, see here

http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/files/Co...D1E145.pdf

I think you`ll find that it runs at 60hz, when connected to a PC, Check page 64 "PC compatibility chart"

I'm confused now. Would the following statements be right?

a) The Sharp will do 1024x768 max at 50Hz
b) The Sharp will do 1920x1080 at 60Hz

Input would be DVI-HDMI in both instances...

The manual says these are supported -

PC compatibility chart

VGA 640 x 480 60 Hz
SVGA 800 x 600 60 Hz
XGA 1024 x 768 60 Hz
WXGA 1360 x 768 60 Hz
SXGA 1280 x 1024 60 Hz

The manufacturer does not support any other resolutions or refresh rate when the LCD is connected to a PC.

There maybe work arounds, to get higer resolutions and 50hz refresh rate but the manufacturer does not support it.

If I was in your position to buy a new LCD, I would ask the question on http://www.avforums.com

Asking if anyone knows of a LCD that will run 50hz @ 1366*768 (when connected to a PC) and has a refresh rate of around 5ms and Pixel to Pixel Mapping.
On avforums they know their stuff about LCD`s and could probably point you to a good 50Hz.

The statements
Are not supported by the manufacturer, but you may be able to run at them, with a work around. But I would get a LCD that a manufacturer supports them resolutions and refresh rates.

Cheers

Yes, I have been very pleased with it, I also have a samsung le32r41bdx but thats only 720p and does not accept PC input over the HDMI

It deffinately accepts 1920*1080 PC input over HDMI at either 50 or 60 hz as I have it running now as I type Smile (at least I know it does on the 42")

i think the pc connections they are talking about are analog (dsub vga plug)1024x768etc
the other ones are you talk about are digital (hdmi)720p 1080i etc
i thought about it and maybe i was wrong if you are using a digital signal the you may be able to go higher with the resolution closer to the native size (ie1368x768)of the lcd
although i still stand by what i said there is no gain going above the native resolution other than to get it ofull the whole screen the picture will not get any better as the pixels are fixed number
so maybe it depends on the connection hdmi always seems higher from the specs i have read

the panels native res is 1920x1080 and will accept and display pc at that resolution with 1:1 pixel mapping, that is why I chose this panel, it is one of the few that accepts and displays the full 1080p. see the picture , the blue bar with res/refresh rate is what the sharp reports sorry about pic but it is done with my phone because I can't find the cable for my camera!
