Hi everyone,

I'm running Vista-32 and using an HVR-1300 card. I was using WMC and everything was working fine but I wanted to see if I could get my laptop to watch tv over the network. I installed gb-pvr and unfortunately ran into a few problems. I set everything up but it couldn't find any channels. I then ran the BDAscan thing and it gave me:

Code:
-----------------------
ScanChannelsBDA-UK starting
Build - v2.4.5.1
Checking for new BDA DVB-T Cards
  Tuner - Hauppauge WinTV 88x DVB-T Tuner/Demod
    @device:pnp:\\?\stream#hcw88bda.m94xx#5&2885ef1f&0&2#{71985f48-1ca1-11d3-9cc8-00c04f7971e0}\{91b0cc87-9905-4d65-a0d1-5861c6f22cbf}
      Finding Demod and Capture filters
Trying - Hauppauge WinTV 88x TS Capture

            SUCCESS
        Checking for Capture filter
Finished Finding Demod and Capture filters
Capture - Hauppauge WinTV 88x TS Capture
        @device:pnp:\\?\pci#ven_14f1&dev_8802&subsys_96010070&rev_05#4&13699180&0&3a48#{fd0a5af4-b41d-11d2-9c95-00c04f7971e0}\{5ea9c066-1dfe-41c5-a2de-00a0c9f21fc7}
Finished Checking for new BDA DVB-T Cards
Found BDA device: Hauppauge WinTV 88x DVB-T Tuner/Demod
Failed to connect to BDA Demux to TIF
Failed to connect filters in graph.

I then remembered that this had happened previously when I installed gb-pvr, but I shortcutted a solution by reinstalling Vista. Unfortunately I'm pretty keen on not reinstalling everything, and I also want to see if I can get gb-pvr to work.

I've made as thorough a search as I could on the problem but I've not been able to find much. I did try to reregister three things (although I'm not 100% sure what they are:

Code:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\psisrndr.ax
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpeg2data.ax
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpg2splt.ax

I also ran the BDA mux checker and it informed me I didn't have one. I've had a look in graph edit though and was able to add and connect up the microsoft mpeg2 demultiplexer. I was able to run the graph but I didn't really know what I was doing in the first place so I don't know if that shows anything helpful.

I can't think of anything else I've tried, but I'm happy to post any logs you may need.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Can you post the GB-PVR logs?

Sure, I'm afraid I didn't know which ones you were after so I just zipped the whole folder up. Hope it doesn't cause too much hassle!

Have you remembered to stop the media center services that are probably holding onto the device?

Yes I've disabled all the media centre services. Sorry one thing I forgot to add previously is that media centre thinks I don't have a tv card anymore. This happened exactly after I installed gbpvr and I ran wmc just to check I had good reception, but as far as it's concerned there's no tv card in the computer. However, the card is obviously ok because BDAscan and gb can both see it.

I'm absolutely positive this would not have been caused by installing GB-PVR. It doesnt change any stuff that could cause this, and we've never seen another report of this in the past.

Given that it sounds like neither media center, GB-PVR or ScanChannelsBDA seem to be working, I'd say either device or its drivers are not functioning. It might be worth removing and reinstalling the drivers.

Sorry I wasn't trying to point fingers or accuse your program of breaking it! I'm just listing the steps I followed that caused the problem. As far as I can rememember, when it happened last time it was after I'd been installing other pvrs. Although, judging by how few results a google search for "BDA demux to TIF" turns up, I agree it's seemingly impossible for a pvr to cause an error like this, otherwise surely more people would have encountered it!

I've tried a full clean out and reinstallation of the drivers but it's still the same. What exactly does "can't connect BDA demux to TIF" mean? I'm assuming from my tinkerings with Graph Edit it's the connection between the pins of two filters or something... Is there any way I can actually test the card out in that program? I had a look on the internet for an example graph with a DVB card, and noticed that all the filters they used were identical to the ones I tried, except for the TIF one. (the address is http://www.conexant.com/servlets/Downloa...98&revid=1) Their one only has two inputs, whereas mine has two, and nothing will connect to either of the pins. I can take a screenshot of the graph I made if that will help?

Yeah, thats pretty much it.

Its not very easy to test DVB cards in GraphEdit. You have to do a lot of manual steps and know a lot of info about the streams of data you'll be receiving. You'd probably be better off testing it in the Hauppauge WinTV software.

I installed wintv and did a fresh install of the drivers again, and scanned for both analog and digital channels with it, but it only came up with analog channels.

I'm really at a loss as to what to do now. Is there anything else you can think of? I don't mind if it would involve lots of slow troubleshooting (by myself of course, I think I've wasted enough of your time already!) as it's liable to be far less time consuming than a full reinstall of Vista...

It sounds like something is non-functioning. It might be worth asking on the Hauppauge forums at http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/index.php
