Objectophillia?!?

Been using the Popcorn in the bedroom for a couple of weeks now hooked up to gbpvr. I guess having it hooked up to a 26" LCD tv (as opposed to my main tv being a 29" CRT running off composite).

But 720p picture from the pch, just makes everything look so good!!

And it's pretty solid, had a couple of instances where I had to power it off (and couldn't get the remote reboot to work) but other than that it's been good.

It is really getting tempting to buy one. What do you give up (if anything) on the PCH? I think I saw that comskip does not work. Any hope of comskip? Anything else? Is it at least as fast and stable as an MVP?

UPDATE: I just did some forum searching and see that comskip is not available, but someday may be if the right info is obtained. Sorry for asking without looking first.:o

Yeah you give up comskip - but I always had skipping problems on the MVP from a digitak source so had dropped comskip to start off with.

And your music is different - but this is a bedroom tv. In saying that, I am seriously thinking about getting another on for putting in the lounge...

oh and if you used the OSD guide to schedule other programs thats not possible either But I used to do that from live tv occasionally - you'd see something in the ads and record it. But haven't felt the need lately...

I'll second that. Mine works great connected to my big HDTV. I'm also thinking about getting another one to replace the client I'm using on the small HDTV. No farting about with mux'es, decoders, drivers, etc. It plays just about anything (except dvr-ms files). With the HD-PVR box it's a great combination. And the price is not much more than a decent video card.

That's what I was tossing up between - make the server do HD by upgrading video card, or get another popcorn....

I'm not sure if those two thoughts are linked but could you imagine your exultation if it actually did a good job with ML2?

I wont even get in to the amount of delight that would be expressed - it may not be suitable for a family audience. Big Grin

If that was going, then I'd definitely be using it in the lounge as well.

Even without the music they're a pretty cool device....I was bored in the weekend (and sick) so I had a cruise around the web services listed on the device, and found revision3.com lots of tech based podcasts- that I now download via an rss reader. These are 640x480 res (you can get HD 1280x720) as well.

And the flickr photo browsing off the internet was pretty as well.

I hear what you are saying, and I'm following the development with great interest...

but I do spend a lot of time listening to what's in my ML2 library on the MVP in the kitchen and I would really miss being able to navigate through playlists...Sad
