Some shows i record have artifacts on the top few lines.  Its only certain shows, like Seinfeld. I noticed that the commercials in between were OK. I thought perhaps it may have something to do with captions so i am going toi record something with closed captions turned on. Have you seen this problem before?

I've attached an example. Thanks.

By the way i think you are a genuis for writing this software.

You could use the vertical zoom factor in the config.xml to hide them, but there is probably not much else you can do.

These "artifacts" are actually from the video source themselves.

I'm not quite certain of the details of why they occur, but because these shows are stored on magnetic tape, sometimes, on the top or bottom edges, you'll get these artifacts when the tape is played back. So when the TV stations play back these shows from tape and broadcast those signals to you, they broadcast everything, artifacts and all.

So why don't you normally see them while you're watching TV on a normal TV set? Because the TV actually zooms in on all sides a bit to hide them. Simply put, if you've ever noticed in GBPVR that the picture in your recordings seems a bit smaller than when watching it in normal TV mode, that's because GBPVR zooms out and captures the entire picture, which includes those funky artifacts on the top and bottom (I think WinTV does the same thing). There's nothing you can do to remove them, but you can hide them during playback (just like your television does when playing back TV signals) by adjusting the vertical zoom in the config.xml file.

Closed captioning is encoded in line 21 of an NTSC TV signal, so some of what you see may be captioning.
