problem - I don't want to connect to internet!

First of all - this software is AMAZING! Well done, but I do have a gripe.

In order for the TV guide and software to work I need to allow my firewall to fully allow access to GBPVRRecordingService.exe, sqlbrowser.exe, PVRX2.exe and also GBPVRTray.exe.

My problem is that I dont want it to connect to the internet and so want to change my firewall to block those options - but then GBPVR stops working.

I have set up the EPG guide to DVB EPG Broadcast so the channel and program information should come through the UK Freeview and not need the XMLTV internet access at all.

Would really appreciate knowing how to get this up and running without internet access as I dont like allowing my firewall to allow access if there is no good reason for it.

I hope someone can advise and I appreciate all answers very much indeed!

GBPVR will only connect to the internet for EPG. If you use DVB EPG, it will not connect to the internet at all (except for things like Internet Radio, which can be disabled). It uses the TCP/IP protocol for communicating between the different services (PVRx2->Recording Service, etc). If you want to block them, you need to block them for internet access but allow them for local intranet access or access on the local machine only (if running no clients). If your firewall configuration does not allow this, you will need to unblock them completely.

Yeah, Whurlston is correct. If you're using the DVB EPG then it doesnt need to connect to the internet. It does need to be able to TCP/IP between components on the local machine though.

My uncle has seen this amazing software and wants it on his PC - but he does not have any internet access at all. Would it work to just download onto a flash memory card and install or does it need to check the web during installation.
He itching to have this program but am not sure if his lack of internet will stop it installing fully.

And finally some info for Sub, just a quick reason why I am here.

I took a risk and bought a mega cheap £8.00 chinese USB DVB from Ebay. Had read loads of peoples websites about problems but had also read a significant number of feedbacks on Ebay to say everything usually works a treat if you are patient.

Well, I got the item and after being very patient I got it working great... the remote works great and the Blaze software was ok although not very user friendly and didnt remember settings after shutdown.
The main problem though was that when Blaze was running, my HDD would go crazy and do a ton of accessing constantly.

I was not at all happy with that and so decided my drive would burn out before I got decent use out of the dongle. I decded to look around and hence found GBPVR which I think is truly wonderful both to look at, for functionality and for the lack of process power it uses.

I cant get the cheapo bundled remote to work with GB PVR but that does not matter as I use the bluetooth remote control feature on my Sony Ericsson K750i moble phone to move the mouse pionter and control GBPVR.

So, just thought I would let you know Sub just how great your software is and how grateful I am. I am unfortunately out of work at the moment but as soon as I get a job I have a list of 2 things to buy. the first is a crate of beer and the 2nd is a donation to your PayPal account.

IIRC you just need to copy the epg file to wherever GBPVR is looking for it and the run UpdateEPG (I think you can add this as an argument when stating pvrx2)

As far as your remote goes have you tried using third party software, like HIP, or IRSUITE, or eventghost to do the job of getting your remote to communicate with gbpvr?
