I've got an odd problem just started on my GBPVR server and it's probably my fault (or so the Wife says) as it's been working fine for months but in wanting to attach a new HDTV, I updated my graphics drivers from Catalyst 9.6 to the latest 9.8 verson.

Everything seems to work fine other than skip has stopped working. I'll qualify that. If I play an mpg file, skip forward or backwards works fine. If I play a recorded TS format file, when you press skip, the picture freezes and sound stops, after 30-40 seconds, the picture fast forwards about a minute and playback resumes. If I press say 10 and skip (for a 10 minute jump), the picture freezes for about 2-3 minutes then fast forwards 10 minutes and playback resumes. (and I do mean Fast Forward rather than jump)

This only seems to happens playing back TS files but unfortunately that's all I record from TV.

Backout the driver update I hear you say..... that didn't fix the problem.

Can't see anything odd in the log files and no error messages.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Do you hav ethe current release installed, and the patches from survival guide installed? Also make sure you have the audio renderer set to 'system default'.

Sorry Sub, should have said. Running latest release GBPVR with all relevant patches. Audio renderer is set to default.

The TS files are standard definition (not HD)

I've not changed any config settings in GBPVR for months so can't understand why it's suddenly started this odd problem

Nothing really springs to mind, but reproduce the problem then post the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

did you remove the old ati stuff before installing newest ones?
when they change a lot in the driver, sometimes this is necessary...
using ati mpeg2 codec? if so, make sure to get newest avivo download..[separate] to match driver ver.

pBS, Thanks for the prompt. Sometimes one gets too close to see what's staring you in the face.

Yes I did a de-install before I installed the new drivers. I suspect this may also have removed the Avivo codecs as well  because when I checked the Video Decoder list in GBPVR config, the ATI codec option was missing from the list. (It was definitely there before)

I installed the latest Avivo package but that didn't make a difference then I noticed the Video Decoder was set to "System Default". I changed it to ATI and voila, problem fixed.

Now I checked an old backup copy of my config file (made about 3 months ago) and that shows the Video Decoder was previousley set to "System Default" so somewhere along the lines during the ATI update process, the System Default must have got changed to something other than the ATI codec.

Wife now "off-the-warpath" Big Grin

Sub:

How can I see what the "System Default" Video Decoder is set to (and can I change it?)

You can view the pvrx2.exe-native.log to find out what filters are used during playback. You can change the decoder used by GBPVR during playback from the dropdown in Config.

Checking the pvrx2.exe-native.log and comparing it to an older version highlights the fact that the "system default" decoder selected in the GBPVR config had infact change from the ATI Mpeg2 Decoder" to "DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder". The visibility of the "under-the-covers" change isn't obvious because I've always used the "system default" setting for the video decoder in playback config and I hadn't changed that.
