I've been having the problem where I can't get sound on any recorded video (live works OK). I found a thread suggesting that using ffdshow had worked for several people (as opposed to any of the codecs I had to choose from) as the AC3 codec, so I installed ffdshow and all seemed well.

After rebooting the machine, there was a dialog box (can't remeber exactly what it said now) during boot (after windows main desktop loaded) saying something wanted to use ffdshow to do audio and did I want to let it. Naievely I said yes and on starting pvrx2 I found I was back where I was with no audio.

I re-installed ffdshow, to no effect.

I have used graphedit to display the codecs, and unsurprisingly there is no audio codec. More surprisingly the video codec shows as being Avermedia (there is an avermedia card in the system), but the video codec is listed as ffdshow in pvrx2 config.

If I click on ffdshow in the programs menu it shows the ffdshow config and everything seems to be in the default state.

Being a newbie I'm not sure what the drill is for describing the config.

Any ideas please ?

thanks,
Derek

I'm not sure this applies here: I know sometimes people using FFdshow had to set permission for pvrx2 in ffdshow-config. Maybe that's the case here as well.

That sounds like a possibility - I did my initial setup under my own (admin priv) login but noticed that when trying to run as "TV" (unprivileged user) gbpvr config crashes in an ugly way apparently because it can't start / stop the recording service.

It's possible something broke with ffdshow before I set "TV" to have admin priviledge. I'll take a look

yes, this is the problem. In ffdshow config I unchecked the boxes marked "Don't use ffdshow in" and "use ffdshow only in" (belt and braces) and now audio is working again.

pvrx2.exe is not listed in the files associated with either checkbox though ...

You sould only need to uncheck "use ffdshow only in" or add it to that list.
