GB-PVR can't tune my Dvico card !

Hi,

I've got a Dvico Fusion HDTV5 Lite card I'm trying to get running in GB-PVR on standard (not HRC) clear QAM cable. I have installed the Dvico drivers and TV software. The card receives analog and clear QAM channels fine in the Dvico app.

So in GB-PVR "Edit Recording Source" I selected "Digital Recording Plugin", SchedulesDirect", "No Channel Changer Required". I successfully imported my SchedulesDirect lineup. When I try to "Map digital channels to EPG channels", GB-PVR scans through all 135 channels and finds nothing. If I exit out and "show status" with the tray icon, it says the card is "sleeping".

Under the settings for Recording Source, the "Digital Source Configuration" menu, I selected only show devices detected in this machine, "Fusion HDTV5 Lite (QAM)", "Device Number 1", it shows Type:ATSC, "All Countries", "Default Cable Frequencies", everything else is greyed out.

When this didn't work, I reviewed the logs, and noticed that the card had 7 identified tuning spaces, 1 and 2 being analog, 3 and 4 being digital I think. So I tried setting the device number from 2-7 also. All of those device numbers caused GB-PVR to report it was unable to open the card. I did verify that I completely shut down the Dvico software, and even restarted the computer, just in case the Dvico software was somehow locking the card from GB-PVR. That also didn't change anything.

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? Or do the Dvico cards not work with GB-PVR?

Unfortunately QAM can be a bit hit or miss on anything other than Hauppauge or HDHomeRun devices. QAM support wasnt done a standard way in devices until Windows 7, so before this things varied at lot from device to device.

Conveniently, quite a few manufacturers did QAM support the same way as Hauppauge so it works on quite a several non-Hauppauge/non-HDHR devices. I cant really remember what the story was with this specific device though. The fact it is in the bda.ini file implies that at least one user has confirmed it working for them in the past, but I dont know what platform they were on, and the driver support for it may vary in XP / Vista / Win7.

The logs show it going through the motions, and attempting to scan, with no critical errors listed, but the device never manages to lock onto a signal. Unfortunately I'm not sure really what to suggest. Hopefully some other Dvico user might be here to post suggestions though. Probably worth doing a forum search to see if you find any useful info.

I didn't think about searching the forum for problems with the specific card, since it was working with its own software, and recognized by GB-PVR. That'll teach me. Every post I found, people had the same issue with no resolution. Sounds like the typical computer industry problem of proprietary solutions due to lack of (or poor) early standards.

I had this card left over from trying to set up digital on my MythTV. It didn't work well on Myth either for many people, though some others had more success with it than I. I couldn't get the kernel to reliably and correctly recognize the card. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't, depending on the phase of the moon.

I'm eBaying it. I already sucked it up and ordered a HVR-2250 after reading your post. Thanks.

Sorry about that, but at least you got an answer, and you should be fine with the HVR-2250.
