I have a PVR-350 and graphic card with TV-out. I'd like to use the PVR-350 output to watch TV and programs recorded with the PVR-350, but not for other videos.

Is it possible ?

Or: is it possible to watch divx with the PVR-350 output ?

I don't have a PVR350, however my understanding is that it is only a MPEG2 decoder for playback... I would think that it would need to be transcoded from AVI to MPG for playback through the PVR350....

Not sure about your playback of 'other videos' through the TV-OUT card..

That was my feeling that the PVR-350 could decode MPEG2 only, that's why I want to output "other videos" (everything but MPEG2) with my graphic cards.

But after reading few threads about the PVR-350, it reminded me of the problems I had and that maybe I should give up the idea of using the 350 output.

Thanks anyway

i think that is probably the best idea :-(

Even without these problems, i suspect that a duron 800 might struggle to trancode non-mpeg2 content into mpeg2 for output to the 350.

Hi,
I own a pvr350 and use it for watching everything recorded with it, plus to control gbpvr. For dvd's I use the graphic card output. I call a separate program for that: media player classic. I have it integrated with myhtpc, but am planning to start it from gbpvr. I haven't figured out how to select a file, though.

So, to answer your question: yes it works, but you have to hack a few things together.

I have a PVR-350, if you set it to use the hardware out then you can only watch mpeg2 streams through gbpvr, I prodominantly use gbpvr to watch divx videos which wont play through the hardware encoder so if you have gbpvr set to use the hardware encoder you simply get a black screen.

You can change the output to use the software decoder when you want to watch divx videos but then that involves exiting and entering the gbpr configuration, which is not ideal since the pc is stuck behind the telly and I have no mouse/keyboard plugged into it Wink

If you are only going to use it to watch live tv and recordings then use the hardware decoder as it will reduce the CPU load on your PC. I have it running in a PIII600 and if I use the hardware decoder the CPU is hardly doing anything. If you want to use it to watch divx videos as well and you cannot switch between hardware and software encoding easily then you might have to stick to the TV out from the graphics card.
