Hi all,

I find that the rendering quality and navigation of the gbpvr dvd player (which I understand to be a directshow from the dvd software) is different from the player's own quality and nav.

I did read some of the helpful finds of windvd 7 registry entries that someone had posted and tried them out. They did improve the quality, however, there's still a lot of difference.

I'll try to as objectively as I can state the issues, maybe someone out there has a solution:
System Description:
3 year old athlon 1800+xp system with 750MB ram, nvidia Ti500 vid card, audigy platinum, 320GB of space for tv and dvd movies.
Connection:
Input: Hauppauge 150 inputs from antenna, and s-video for digital channels from comcast (hdtv) box.
Output: s-video to a hitachi 42" widescreen projection tv
Basic Game Plan: Create a movie juke box. Rip dvd's, remove extra features and any software such as interactual etc, create an iso and watch it "on demand" using gbpvr.

Black level quality/JPEGiness: Without the registry entry for DXVA I get a very jpeggy blotchy quality. However even with it in there the blacks are still a bit "muddy". Maybe its a gamma issue but it is noticeably off.

Audio: Audio settings from windvd don't map into gbpvr or the directshow (or however that works, a little clueless here on that one). As of now I do not have a receiver and surround system and just hook it into my stereo system. Basically the downconversion settings from windvd are not in effect when I play the dvd. However, it sounds quite good when I play using windvd.

aspect ratio: I've tried the F7 (mapped the * key to F7 on the remote) and the ratios provided are not the same as the ones from windvd. There is a grey bar on top and bottom. The windvd itself plays fine with the widescreen occupying the entire screen or the grey bars being fairly dark as to be not noticeable.

DVD Navigation: this has confused me the most. I have tried using config to set it to DVD Navigation and Intervideo navigation. Neither one provides a smooth interface. It appears to be a bit random in its behavior. Fwd/rew are my main basic problems. I've tried the setting it to step instead of speed up and that seems to work better. But there are certain dvd's that misbehave more than others. None of these problems occur with windvd.

I finally gave up fixing this and I mapped the "picture" button to launch windvd. Windvd default disk drive is set to the Daemon tool's map drive.
So, when I select a movie I hit stop and now that the movie is "mounted" I then hit the picture button which launches windvd.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
