Here's the problem: After installing 96.8 I can no longer access EWA from anywhere but the local machine and all 3 MVP's are stuck at "Contacting MediaMVP Server". Since the only way we use GBPVR is through the MVP's this is a big problem!

96.8 appears to to fine on the machine it is installed on. Recordings are being made, GBPVR, Config & EWA are all working. The new look and features are great! I just can't access it anywhere else!

Before installing 96.8 I had 95.16 running almost perfectly (small problems with skip caused by the Time Stamp issue). All 3 MVP's connected and worked properly. Enhanced Web Admin worked from the local machine, other machines on my LAN and from my work computer accross the internet. Once I install 98.6 the MVP's fails to connect and EWA is only accessable from the local machine. I can uninstall 96.8 and re-install 95.16 and everything starts working again (I always re-boot after installs and uninstalls). I triple checked firewall and router settings and they are not changing. The problem appears exactly like the server has been ffirewalled but since installing the previous version clears it up I think we can rule out the firewall. I also verified in Config that EWA is enabled on the default port and the username password are correct and also that 3 MVP servers are being started. Using task manager I have verified the 3 MVP Servers are indeed running.

I have repeated the install/uninstall several times with the exact same results, 95.16 works and 96.8 fails.

I have run out of ideas. Can anyone suggest where to look or what I can try? I would really like to get 98.6 running...

Don,

Don't rule it out just yet. I find that for every new version I install, I have to manually REMOVE the reference to GBPVR.EXE and GBPVRRECORDINGSERVICE.EXE from my Norton Antivirus Worm Protection Section, close and re-open NAV and then manually re-add them, then it works. Possibly the same issue with other Firewalls/Worm Protection progs.

I also suggest you stop the recording service momentarily while you do this, as otherwise your Firewall will try to add it automatically and it still doesn't work.

I think what happens is that not only are those Firewall/Worm programs looking at the file name, they probably also look at either the file VERSION or other file attributes like length, bytes etc.

Give it a whirl.

k.

The fact whatever is causing this interferes with both EWA and MVP, the two things that access the network, really makes it sound firewall related to me.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I agree with both of your responses. It sure seems like a firewall issue. I have already removed all Norton software from the Media server (GBPVR machine) and disabled the Windows firewall. I do have Norton Worm Protection running on another machine on the LAN and all the other machines on the LAN have Norton AV running. When I get home I will disable Norton Worm Protection even though it is not running on the Media server.

Any other ideas? Obviously something is blocking access for the new version and not the old version. Anyone ever have a problem with Worm protection running on a machine other then the one GBPVR is installed on?

Again, thanks for the responses...

is the recording service being run as user? i know when re-installed, it resets this info...[but may be caching login rights when going back to 95.16]
i always have to go and reset my recording service to login as user to access network shares with gbpvr...[wish there were a fix,but not much Sub can do about logins and accounts on user's machine]
