Hey everyone,

I've had quite a bit of trouble upgrading, and it doesn't seem to be the same as other peoples.

I copied config.xml and gbpvr.mdb to my desktop, installed .NET 2.0, installed GBPVR 0.97.7, and as soon as the install was finished I got an error message telling me that Config had crashed, before I had launched anything.

My backup of config.xml was no longer on my desktop, and when I launched config all my configurations were empty. Fine, I just have to set it all up again. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

The major problem is with the EPG. When I started up the new version, it had lost all of my EPG, recordings, etc. I copied my backed up copy of gbpvr.mdb into the GBPVR directory, and GBPVR refuses to recognize it when I press "Live TV". It says that "no Channels have been setup, please run the Config utility and update the EPG source, etc, etc." I can watch my recordings though.

When I go to config and try and update my EPG, however, it does not work. For a while it was giving me an error message, and I knew you'd like to see it. For some reason though, when I tried to replicate it as I was posting this, it refused to do it (I tried a few times). What does happen is that the EPG updates, and GBPVR's "Live TV" still doesnt recognize it. Still tells me to go into Config and update the EPG.

I would really rather not roll back to .96, and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

UPDATE: In case this helps in diagnosing the issue, I can navigate the EPG from within the Web Interface. TV Guide is working and as complete as before the upgrade. The recordings page is also complete.

I am not sure if I understood right, but you can't put the old gbpvr.mdb and config.xml (from 96.12) in the new 97.7 install. i guess the webinterface is reading the old mdb.

Nope, not exactly.

Normally the upgrade should go smoothly and my config settings and EPG database should be unchanged when I start it up again, right? This one didn't they were both wiped. I had made a backup of each and put them on my desktop.

a) I don't have the old config.xml file. It disappeared from my desktop after I installed GBPVR. Yes, that sounds completely weird and mad, I have no explanation for that. So I just reconfigured everything.

b) My recordings database and EPG is messed up, as I described in the main post. I can start from scratch as the install did, but I lose all pending recordings and the database of previously recorded shows. Or, I should be able to put the backed up gbpvr.mdb file into the gbpvr folder, or so I'd imagine. However, when I do that, I cannot watch LiveTV from within GBPVR. My recordings are all as they were before the upgrade. My TV Guide works from within GBPVR. Everything works on the Web Interface. LiveTV, however, tells me that I need to configure the EPG in Config.

I hope this clarifies things, and apologize that my first post was rather cluttered.

Correct, and seems to work this way for 99% of people, but I do suggest backing up the gbpvr.mdb and config.xml in case anything goes wrong during this procedure.

Honestly, there is no way GB-PVR deleted this file off your desktop - its just some mistake you've made.

gbpvr.mdb and config.xml are not portable between releases, but if your want to try the upgrade process again, you can uninstall GB-PVR, delete the gbpvr directory, then reinstall the old version of GB-PVR, restore the config.xml and gbpvr.mdb, then try the upgrade again.

If you can run config you could export your recordings (config-plugins-tab) or check if there is already a recording-dump.xml, then uninstall everything, install again configure everything, then import the recordings again

Thanks sub, you're great as always. I really appreciate it.

Uninstalling and reinstalling with my old mdb file worked perfectly.

Finally, I agree it sounds ludicrous to say that my config file disappeared off my desktop...but what can I say? It did. No way it was GBPVR's fault, GBPVR wasn't running at the time. When setup tried to launch Config after it was done installing, Config never launched and Windows told me that it crashed. After clicking "Don't Send" my config file literally just disappeared off my desktop. Most likely an anomoly with my install of windows. Just super weird.

Thanks for the help and all the work you put into GBPVR,
Michael

PS: When I first posted this, I didn't see your response HtV. It's already fixed, but thank you as well.
