Hi,

I have an ATI550 TV-tuner, and have always, as far as I remember, have slipping lipsync problems. I have now decided to try to get to the bottom of this problem...

I have an ATI550 TV-tuner, nVidia 7900GT graphics card, A X2 4400+ AMD cpu, and a few other things. On top of this, the software is nVidia PureVideo (Thanks to TheaterTek), GBPVR. I do NOT have ffdshow - it has never been installed - so it is not ffdshow problem (which other seems to have had). Operating system is MCE2005 latest version all fixes available applied. Latest driver on ATI andf nVidia.

Any ideas ?

Or should I simply just change to another TV-tuner card manufacture ?

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe-native.log file.

try different mpeg audio decoders..i remember one of the ati ones had problems with this..[made by cyberlink actually]
[and try different renderers too]
is it in the recordings or just playback inside of GBPVR?
[try playing back with WMP]

On the Misc configuration page, I set interlacing to "Encoder pass-through". The audio and video are out of sync for the first couple of minutes. After that it seems to work fine. I don't know if that will solve your problem, but that's was what worked for me.

Regards,
Daris

If you record, then play the file in a different program. If possible, also record using a different TV-viewing program (something that came w/ the card, trial version of PVR software).

If the resulting file is out of sync when you play in 3rd party player like media player, then it's probably your card, card drivers, or. purevideo.

If they playback is fine, then it probably means your system is trying to do too much when you're watching TV, or something it is doing doesn't agree w/ your system (mem leak, driver issue, etc). I would start by testing other encodeing software like Intervideo.

Okay, let me clear one thing up: I ONLY use Live-TV. I have lipsync issues with Live-TV. The lip sync issue get worse by the minute, that is: For each hour the software is up and running the sound get's more out of sync.

And this happens with GBPVR + Outlook + Firefox = my CPU is idling most of the time.

Furter: I have an iRam drive where I store temp files, and the GBPVR "buffer". So diskspeed should not be an issue. Btw the hard drive is a 150GB Raptor - so I have the speed that is neeed.

Dunno if your issue is the same thing I'm talking about, but here's my best guess. I've got a Sapphire-built TV Wonder Elite (they call it the Theatrix, but it's identical in every way except PCB colour and included remote) and Live TV also used to have lip-sync problems for me. I managed to get them to an acceptable level, but I don't know about the extended-watching issue since I never watched Live TV for more than one show. IIRC (it was a while ago that I looked at this) I managed to settle on the FFDShow de-interlacer that not only properly de-interlaced Live TV (I hadn't found anything until then that would) but reduced the lip-sync issues better than anything I had found. It still wasn't perfect, however.

Thinking about this some more, I just decided to watch Live TV and after about half an hour, I didn't have any out-of-sync voices at all. I'm using GB-PVR 97.13 and driver version 6.14.10.173 with Windows XP Pro. I'm still using FFDShow de-interlacing, but I'm also using AC3Filter as my audio decoder - maybe that's what did it for me? I used to use the Cyberlink decoders, but I don't even have those installed anymore.

You could always use timeshift mode to watch TV until you nail this, if it really is bad enough, although I could understand that not being a permanent solution since channel-surfing is really slow in timeshift mode with this card.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all suggestions. However I have come to the conclusion that I can only resolve this by changing hardware...
