I'm having problems with playback (using 0.99.5, no plugins) and am trying to resolve it using a particular mpeg file that's giving the following wierd symptoms :-

I have an mpeg file recorded using bda (cyberlink mux Version 5.0.2022 reported by the Mux Checker).
This file is stored on pc number 1.
If I play it on pc 1, it freezes in the same place every time. This is the same regardless of which player I use (gbpvr, Winamp or Media Player 10)
If I play it over the (wired) network on pc number 2 using Media player, it plays ok ! No freezing, no sync problems.
If I play it via my MVP (version H3) it plays, but the syncing is out. (please read on, I don’t think this is an mvp problem !)
Both of the pcs use the same version of the cyberlink mux ( reported as version 6.0.0.1006 by the MS Video Decoder Utility) and the same version of the Quartz.dll (reported as 6.05.2600.2749 by dxdiag)

It appears that the problem is underneath gbpvr, somewhere else in my setup, but I’ve run out of places to look. Can anyone give me any new pointers of areas to investigate ?

Any help, gratefully received…..

My guess is that you are using different mpeg-decoders on the machines. And the file is probably a "little" corrupt, but different decoders may act different on that.

Thanks HTV,

I used MS Video Utility Decoder to ID the files on each machine and if I've understood it right, then the mpeg decoder is the cyberlink file (version6.0.0.1006). I've tried copying the file from from pc2 to pc1, in the hope that maybe it was corrupt on pc1, but it made no difference.

I agree that the mpeg file may be a little corrupt, but the fact that it "kind of" plays on the mvp, but not on pc1 (which is where gbpvr is installed) is wierd. I thought that the mvp used the same components to play files as the "host" pc, but my current problem seems to contradict that.

..hmmmmm..

The MVP has it's own hardware mpeg-decoder. You should check which software-decoders (not encoders) both systems are using in gbpvr. The mux you are talking about is that really a mux or a mpeg-decoder? AFAIK the mux is used for writing the mpeg not for playing it.

You're right of course, there was an error in my original post and I shouldn't have referred to the cyberlink mux when I was describing the decoder.

To recap then :-
pc1 has gbpvr installed and uses the cyberlink mux (5.0.2022) to record.

I've checked the software decoders on both pcs using the MS Video Decoder Utility and they both have the same version of the Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (version 6.0.0.1006). This is used by Media Player on both pcs and presumably is the same Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder which is selectable in the gbpvr Config .

If the mvp has its own decoder, that might explain why it can play the file where the pcs can't, but I don't understand why I'm getting different symptoms on the different pcs.

The mpeg file that I'm trying to play stalls in the same place on pc1, regardless of the player that I use (gbpvr, Media Player or Winamp) but plays ok on pc2, even though it seems like the critical components are the same on the different machines.

I still feel like I'm missing something, but thanks so far
