GA-EP35-DS4
E8500
8600GT
4GB
1TB RAID0
Vista 64bit
HVR-4000

I've just built my new PC and have been trying to view BBC HD via Freesat and my skydish.

I've been able to view BBC HD, but the pic seems to stutter a bit. I'm not sure if the frame rate is low, but you can see it stuttering most on panning shots.
Surley my pc is powerful enough. Maybe I'm missing some setting or driver.

ANy advice???
Thanks
Alan

Hi,
Have you got the right codecs installed (powerdvd/windvd) to make use of your 8600GT's hardware accelleration?

There's a thread somewhere on getting it working using free software too.

I'm watching BBC-HD on GBPVR on a lower spec machine and it's fine.
8600GT, 1GB memory, winxp, E2160 cpu.
(I've got powerdvd installed and the codecs selected from that in my config).

I've got smooth playback for this channel on this card with XP SP3 and the Cyberlink H.264 decoder. It took me a while to spot "BBC HD (AC3)" as the way to 5.1 surround sound but it's fine now.

I've put a signal splitter into the cable path so both the Sky STB and the HVR4000 receive the signal (I've only got one LNB on the dish). However, BBC HD will only display in PVRX2 if the Sky STB is turned on AND tuned to ITV1. There will be a very good technical reason for this - probably something to do with polarity, but until I get a dual LNB and can be bothered to run a new cable all round the house I'll put up with it!

(BTW, Federer v Nadal was just awesome in HD. You could see every drop of sweat...)

Thanks for the reply.
Do I need to buy windvd or powerdvd? Or will installing the trails give me the codecs?
If I uninstall the apps will the codecs be left behind?

THanks again

I think the trials will do! You'll know if you have the codecs still if you check GBPVR config once you uninsall them and try to select the codecs it installed.

Download and install Fraps and you can check what framerate you're getting with a little display in the corner of the screen. NB It shows double sometimes, so for BBC HD expect to see 50.

I've installed the powerdvd trial and I can now play Bluray discs in my pc. Bluray works well.
However BBC HD will now play perfectly for about 10s then start stuttering again.
CPU load is always under 20%
I found a channel called Luxe HD that does the same thing as BBC HD.
So the PC is up to spec and plays bluray so any ideas whats going on now?

Thanks
Alan
