After quite a few months, I have my machine back up with 1.3.11. Previously, DVR-MS playback had been flawless. Now, it's jerky. I understand that this is not intrinsic to GB-PVR; it's related to Directshow and drivers. I am looking for insight as to why previously flawless playback is now a bit like the stuttering found in Adobe Flash video.

System specs:
Asus M3A78-EMH-HDMI, 2.8ghz Athon 64x2, 4 gb ram, 780g motherboard graphics, XP/SP3, latest ATI 9.1 driver. No video scaling; the TV is a Philips 1920x1080 native. Graphics driver acceleration is "full." DRV-MS is from U.S. OTA at 15mb/s . There are no dropouts. Previously, VMR9 exclusive was found to be required for pristine performance, so that continues to be used.

Just discovered: If I play the DVR-MS files with WMP11, they play smoothly, but without sound, since AC3filter is required. Does this indicate a mux problem?

What changed?

The exact same thing happened to me - also a 780g mb and I recently upgraded to the 9.1 drivers.

Did you try backing down the driver?

I would suggest the 8.11 driver.

9.1 was the first version that's ever given me the option of 1080p@50 in CCC so I am reluctant to go back. I also no longer get blue screen crashes from the H264 SD DVB-T channels from the Irish DTT which I used to get. So for the mo, I can live with dvr-ms being unplayable - I should convert all my recordings to something else really. Is there a good batch tool for converting a whole stack of recordings to divx (or similar)?

I have replaced 9.1 with the Asus 8.57 beta driver on the M3A78-EMH HDMI download page, dated 12/2008/24. Standard def is now perfectly smooth. 24P film originated material is improved, but still a little jerky. Are there any specific optimizations for 24P ?

The previous Asus version, 8.471.0.0, bluescreened with the Microsoft opinion that the driver had gone into an infinite loop.

On further examination, the problem persists with all hidef material. In windowed mode, I was able to check the CPU usage, which stays below 50%. The 780G chipset was designed to revolutionize the HT PC with an efficient mpg decoder. Sadly, the potential seems to have been blunted by a driver bug.
This machine is now relatively useless to me as a HT PC, yet it is not easy to reverse the situation, as the precise combination that formerly worked so well is not known.

Update: The Asus beta actually contains the same driver within a few minor revisions. So I went back to 9.1 I have installed the Nov. '08 DirectX package. This may have produced a slight improvement. On the whole, however, it's a 2nd rate experience.

Do not use 9.1, totaly broken DXVA here under XP. For Ati HD3200 use catalyst 8.5, they are greatly stable, DXVA working correctly for MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1.

You can read a lot here: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/codecs...saf-44614/
