For last few days I am noticing that my XP machine is not able get any rest. As soon as I hit the sleep/suspend button or let power saving mechanism kick in, machine wakes up again in few seconds.

I tried disabling active programs one by one and everything is normal when I disable the gbpvr service. Are there any known issues with GB PVR that might be disabling the sleep functionality?

I am also suspecting (no proof yet) a memory leak in GB PVR processes somewhere. Though task manager shows nothing abnormal for the process, my PF file usage becomes very high and machine becomes almost unusable - it stops responding to mouse/keyboard strokes. Only button that works is power button on the pc - hard reboot. Again after disabling GB pvr service, everything is ok.

GB Pvr package and XP patches are up to date. I don't have anything extra for GBPVR apart from download from standard directory. Machine is clean with freshly formatted drive and OS reinstall.

Any pointers to solve this problem will greatly appreciated.

I used MCE Tool, http://slicksolutions.eu/mst.shtml; it help to set some hidden registry with a custom WinXP build for resume via USB.

Note, there is a beta build with more options that I used from the forums:

the recording service does tell windows to stay awake if there is a recording due to start within x minutes. You can see these "stay awake" requests in the log file (you may need to set the logging to debug).

how much ram do you have?

do you have any other plugins installed that might be affecting stanbdby and memory usage or are you seeing this behaviour with clean gbpvr install and no plugins?
by which I mean, try removing any plugins to see if they are the culprit)

I have 1.5 GB of RAM. I don't have any plugins installed for GBPVR and OS is clean reinstall.

I'll try enabling the debug log and see if I can find any information.

Thanks,

- Niranjan

The beta version of MCE Tool has a feature:
Win idle can be used to monitor and fine-tune Windows own idle detection
This can be used to determine if windows thinks it idle and for how long.
