Hi, I'm running GB-PVR on XP SP2, and it always hangs if I try to pause (rewind, etc) live TV. It says "Starting Timeshift Mode TV. Please Wait" but never recovers. I eventually have to use task manager to get control back. After one of these incidents, there is a large mpg file in my recording directory. I can not play back the file, since it says I don't have the necessary codec (which one???).

I searched the forum archive, but the question was really never answered (it was asked once, but no satisfactory reply). Do I need a special codec to use this feature? Any help would be appreciated.

System specs are:
Sempron 2400
NForce 2 mobo (I believe manufactured by ECS)
256 pc 2700 RAM
Hauppauge PVR 250

Thanks

well, installing ffdshow seems to help. The video is extremely choppy when timeshift is running. Is this just as good as my system can do?

What other MPEG2 decoders do your have installed, and have you tried using them?

Interesting... My GBPVR system is doing the same thing. What is ffdshow?

Well, it's a fresh install of windows, and all I have installed is ffdshow. What do you recommend as far as mpeg2? Heh, I don't want to trouble the admin, I should do some research myself. I just need to familiarize myself with the way the system works to tweak the settings some.

This is, by the way, a very nice program (compared with, say, MediaPortal, which is nightmarish to get working with a Directv setup and hauppauge remote).

DeadSmiley, ffdshow is a set of filters (codecs, whatever) for displaying a variety of formats. I don't know the specifics of GBPVR, but my guess is that it tries to encode using one of these formats and if it's not installed it just hangs. I got it from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...fdshow.cfm

DeadSmiley. I suggest trying a different MPEG2 decoder. I cant confirm that one works with GB-PVR. If you install the Hauppauge WinTV software, it will install the InterVideo decoder which is compatible with GB-PVR.
