HDHomeRun Prime: Pixelation, Freezes and Audio Drop outs
Posted by: markolbert - 2014-02-03, 05:33 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

I'm evaluating nPVR as a replacement for SageTV. I'm running it under 64 bit Win 8.1, using an HDHomeRun Prime as my capture device.

While watching live TV, I'm noticing frequent bursts of pixelation, as well as brief video freezes and audio drop outs. This doesn't happen when watching live TV through Sage.

However, I'm not sure if this is an nPVR issue or a codec issue. I installed both the latest LAV package and Windows Media Center. I'm currently using the LAV decoders.

Also, my SageTV installation runs under Win7 32 bit. Could that make a difference (i.e., is the media support better in Win7 32 bit than Win8.1 64 bit?) I can install Win7 32 bit on my test machine, but that's a tedious process I'd like to avoid unless there's some chance it will make a difference.

Recurring recording 'keep x recordings' question
Posted by: dinki - 2014-02-03, 04:09 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

I am wanting to set up a recurring recording to record the local news. The news plays at 5pm, 6pm, and 10pm. I'd like to keep three recordings with the oldest recording being deleted to make room for the latest. Will setting the 'keep x recordings' setting to three accomplish this, or will NPVR record three programs and then not record any more until one is deleted manually?

Please forgive me if this is an obvious question. I've checked the wiki and did a search and did not find the answer.

  XBMC Setup Issues
Posted by: GrantXP - 2014-02-03, 12:35 PM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (2)

Hi all,

I have had a look at NextPVR and the standalone client works really well. I installed the XBMC plugin and it launches but I have a few issues. Probably easy to fix.

1) Subtitles are always on. There seems to be no intuative way to switch them off.
2) Signal is not as good as when you run it standalone
3) It frequently crashes XBMC, have other people expierienced poor reliability?
4) EPG looks terrible. Is there any way to download logos for channels etc. Also when I launch it I would like it to display with Timeline. Instead I get a now/Next

Any help appreciated

Thanks
Grant

  MVP transcoding?
Posted by: dinki - 2014-02-02, 10:31 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (12)

I am using an MVP with an OTA tv tuner that provides MPEG2 streams. I tried the MVP and found that HD streams did not play at all. I could hear bits of audio, but no video. SD streams did play, but audio was out of sync. I am using the version of the MVP dongle posted on the wiki with a wired network connection.

I've used the same MVP with SageTv and the hd streams did play fine, but they were transcoded to make their playback possible. Does the npvr dongle provide transcoding? Am I missing something? I've tried turning off 'high quality render' but it seems to automatically enable itself (setting doesn't stick). Can anyone offer any guidance? I'd like to use the MVP on one of the kids' tvs but won't be able to if it cannot play live tv.

Thanks

Black Screen on Live TV UNLESS I USE LAV
Posted by: Ookie - 2014-02-02, 08:46 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

First of all, thanks for this product and forum. I've been able to solve a lot of my problems by reading the threads already.

Executive summary: Fully up and running. Forced to use LAV instead of the more highly regarded FFA and/or Cyberlink decoders, leading to slowdowns and reduced performance. Trying to get one of the latter two decoders up and running.

I have NextPVR 3.1.1 up and running well on my HTPC (more than enough machine to run it).

Like many people, I had the black screen issue with live TV early on. I was able to fix it by moving to the LAV video decoder. From there I was able to get up and running in XBMC as well. My only problems are extremely slow channel changes and buffering issues in XBMC.

One of the main suggestions that seems to be a theme both here and elsewhere is to get rid of LAV for a better performing decoder.

First I tried FFA--that gives me a black screen. I also used some detailed instructions to install and get access to the Cyberlink PowerDVD decoder. Regrettably, that also produced a black screen in the Next PVR App.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PC: Intel i5 w/ 6GB RAM
OS: Win 8 64
Source: HD Homerun ATSC w/ OTA antenna (set up to output ATSC instead of HDHR in the HDHR settings)

A few questions from the sticky....
Posted by: Slack - 2014-02-02, 07:16 PM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (1)

First off I am new to NextPVR, but not to PVR software (SageTV and clients used daily) or XBMC (Still use old chipped original Xboxes).
But Google purchased SageTV (so expansion is difficult), and with the PVR add-on for XBMC, it finally seemed like it was time for a 'One Box to Rule them All' media center.....

So I just got a new box up and running with NextPVR backend using HDHomeRun DUAL tuner and a DB8 antenna for North American ATSC.
Got the guide data working via schedules direct and currently have the standard PVR Add-on (sub's flavor) working in XBMC 12.3 on a front end box.

It all seems very, very close. Nice job by all. When / If I get this stable enough to roll out to the family I will definately donate. (And sell my SageTV clients).

Why this thread topic? From the sticky...

Quote:
  • Why would I use X-NEW and not sub's XMBC addon?
    • you really should try sub's plugin first
    • navigation support for recordings in progress
    • you mainly use NextPVR and NMT client and you want to share resume bookmarks.
    • your XBMC doesn't support Frodo, tested on OpenElec, GeeXBox and XBMCbuntu live

Quote:you really should try sub's plugin first
It's quite impressive.
Quote:navigation support for recordings in progress
One heavy usage pattern I have with SageTV, during NFL season, is to start a recording at 1:00pm (and pad it an hour) and start watching it about 2:30-3:30pm. This is before the recording's scheduled end time so the file is not 'complete' in the server's OS file system - but it streams just fine anyways. In initial playing with sub's flavor PVR add-on I noticed that (appears to me anyway) the recording must complete before they become available / visible in the 'Recordings' area of the XBMC client. Does this bullet point mean that with X-NEWA I can do what I described I do with SageTV?
Quote:you mainly use NextPVR and NMT client and you want to share resume bookmarks.
Along time ago I investigated XBMC's mySQL features to enable multiple clients to stop / start / resume in coordination (SageTV has this feature). Does this bullet point potentially mean that I would not have to install mySQL on my backend? But this comes out-of-the-box with X-NEWA? Sure sounds like it.
Quote:your XBMC doesn't support Frodo, tested on OpenElec, GeeXBox and XBMCbuntu live
I was planning on eventually making clients to replace my SageTV HD200s using the future favored Intel NUC boxes - which seem to have a lot of love in the OpenElec crowd. And I assumed I would run OpenElec on them to save $ vs Windoze boxes. Does this bullet imply that sub's NextPVR add-on CANNOT run on anything but XBMC (Windows) Frodo 12+. ? If so that had escaped me in threads that I had read.

  simplest card?
Posted by: jetjaguar - 2014-02-02, 05:35 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I'm confused about BDA drivers, MCE version, etc.

My requirements are:

1. the ability to capture in HD, as in 16x9 at at least 720 vertical
2. The only capture source will be either s-video or component, and audio needs to be rca red and white. I just need to hook into the back of my iptv box.

What is the minimum card that will do these things on NextPVR? As in exact part number. The hardware list given on this site states the Hauppauge 1250MCE. Well I can't find no MCE, but plenty of 1250's, like this

Thanks

PS does anyone else find it less than intelligent that vBulletin has one section called My Profile, that has some editable fields and just shows you your signature, and then you have to know to find Forum Actions, General Settings to actually edit it?

Getting TV over the internet into NPVR?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2014-02-01, 11:54 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

Hi I know that IPTV was removed in 2.5.9, but I recently lost a sports feed and the only quick way to get it is via access over the internet (http://www.uk-tv.asia/index.php) to BBC1 or similar.

Is there any way to get any one of these services to work with NPVR for scheduling recording playback etc. I got it working on the PC, but it produces stf files?

If so what I do I need to get it working? AN IP address?

Thanks

  NPVR documentation for NScriptHelper.exe
Posted by: JavaWiz - 2014-02-01, 06:35 PM - Forum: Forum Issues & Documentation - Replies (5)

I've gathered some info on the batch helper utility NScriptHelper.exe. Unfortunately, my id has expired on the Wiki and cannot add the page to the Utility section. If someone has the time and access, here is the content I was planning to add:

NScriptHelper.exe is a helper utility which is part of the core NPVR package. The utility provides a command line (i.e. batch) interface which can query the NPVR recording service. The executable can be found in the NPVR executables location.

Below lists the functions and calling syntax as of NPVR 3.1.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Description filename
- Output description of recording from the EPG

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -Description "d:\pvr\Recordings\Revolution\Revolution.S01E11.The Stand.ts"
2013-03-25: Miles leads the rebels out of Philadelphia and away from Monroe's machine guns; Rachel is forced to leave her children behind -- again -- as she provides power to the rebels.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Cancel oid
- Cancel recording with specific OID

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Pending
- Output list of pending recordings

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -pending
3089 534 2014/02/01 21:00:00 Black Sails
3087 8 2014/02/03 20:00:00 Almost Human
3091 10 2014/02/04 20:00:00 Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
3092 8 2014/02/06 21:00:00 Rake
3093 62 2014/02/08 18:05:00 The Walking Dead
3090 534 2014/02/08 21:00:00 Black Sails
3094 62 2014/02/09 21:00:00 The Walking Dead
3088 8 2014/02/10 20:00:00 Almost Human

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Title filename
- Output title of recording from the EPG

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -title "d:\pvr\Recordings\Revolution\Revolution.S01E11.The Stand.ts"
Revolution

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -SubTitle filename
- Output the subtitle of recording from the EPG

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -subTitle "d:\pvr\Recordings\Revolution\Revolution.S01E11.The Stand.ts"
The Stand

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Rename srcFileName tgtFileName
- Rename the recording in the EPG to new name(location)
Does NOT move/rename the actual file, only updates the database.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -Delete filename
- Delete the recording in the NPVR database
Does NOT delete the actual file, only updates the database.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -isRecording
This function does not seem to work, always returns NOT RECORDING

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -isRecording
NOT RECORDING

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NScriptHelper -isInUse
- Display status of tuner (Recording or Not Recording)

Ex:
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -isInUse
RECORDING
c:\Program Files\NPVR>NScriptHelper -isInUse
NOT RECORDING

  EPG fails to auto-update
Posted by: Bobins - 2014-02-01, 12:09 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (19)

Been running the old GBPVR for years but having moved house, have taken the plunge to update to NPVR Smile
As with my experience when first installing GBPVR, things aren't quite going to plan.

I have a BlackGold DVB T & S tuner and it scans & finds channels ok. Having reduced the channel list down to those I actually want, I've checked they're all set to OTA EPG update. If I manually update the EPG, it gets populated as you would expect. A day later after the auto-update has run, the EPG is empty

I've checked the log and there are no error messages showing, indeed the extract below is an example of what I see for all channels:-

this seems to imply that the scan finds EPG data and then saves it..... yet there's nothing there and the existing data deleted.

Any ideas what's going wrong?
