Martin, as requested here are a few comments on v2.1.5 running under Windows and Openelec, some of which have already been mentioned:-

The Web client looks very good and only slightly slower than normal NextPVR menus but “Exit” not working means the power button is only way out in Openelec.

The absence of “Skip” in X-NEWA and the web client is a major loss for me. I gave up trying to get Comskip to work reliably when I found that four skips forward works to skip the adverts for most channels. Having to use Fast Forward to avoid the adverts is a pain!

From my normal viewing distance (9ft 6in) I don’t have a problem reading text in the default NextPVR menus but the text used in X-NEWA is smaller and I have difficulty reading some. The menu on the left is OK but is “a bit small”. The text used on the panel to the right is a little smaller so only just readable but the scrolling text used for the programme description is more difficult to read even though it seems larger. Part of the problem may be the poor contrast because of the grey background.

“Save” under "Settings" does not seem to work so have to make permanent changes under “Add-on Settings” instead.

I have not been able to get the built in WOL to work so have installed the Advanced WOL add-on.

While navigating or displaying the X-NEWA menus the server does not see itself as "in use" so it goes to sleep. On the NextPVR client just having NextPVR running prevents the server going to sleep. Mounting a server directory using XBMC file manager does prevent the sever going to sleep but only for about 90 seconds after the last action.

Equipment:- Vista NextPVR server, XP NextPVR client and XBMC client, OpenElec XBMC client, Vista Client. Different versions of Windows may behave differently!

I'm just getting started with imagegrablite. I see that it has functionality for moving files from the live tv folder. What I would like to do is have imagegrablite rename my recordings and then move them to my NAS for use with XBMC when the NPVR server is sleeping. Can this be done? If so, will NPVR also honor the 'record x number of episodes' settings for additional recordings? Does NPVR database get updated with the new location of the files?

Is there anyway to make the New Now Showing menu autohide after a set time?
On my system the mouse going on and off charge (I think that is what does it) causes the now showing menu to pop up on screen. On occassions I have come back into the room after a period of time to find the menu on screen and on closing it (Return on the Remote) the image takes several minutes to fade completely - plasma TV.
Is there a way - or can you add it Sub - to set an auto hide similar to the other on screen displays, so that it disapears after 10 or 20 seconds.

I have an AverMedia M791 that I harvested from another computer, so I have very little software to go along with it.

I hooked it up and ran it through windows media center and it was able to find channels 2-54 plus a handful higher than that

So I installed npvr which found two devices, one QAM and the other ATSC (which makes sense as the card has input for both), selected the QAM tuner and started it scanning. It found nothing, no channels.

I don't really know where to go troubleshooting from this point... I know a signal is coming in because media center is fine, so what should I be looking at next?

Looking to add a HDHomeRun prime to my setup. Scanned the forums and was not able to locate an answer to my question.

Per the HDHomeRun Prime "Operating System Supported" : Fully Compatible With Windows Media Center on Windows 7/8.

Do I need Media Center version of Win8 to use the prime, or can I just use NPVR with Win8 Pro (no Media Center add-on)?

I am so lost.

So far I installed the HVT 2250 Hauppauge card and Hauppauge's Windows Drivers and also Installed NextPVR 3.1.1

I followed the directions in the Quick Start to go to Setting and set up my 2250's two devices (tuners) for ATSC broadcast etc. (I have an amplified antennae attached)

But nothing seemed to work.

Looking for help in the forum I saw the sticky post:

and followed the directions and applied the patches and restarted.

Still nothing works.

Now when I launch nPVR I get the blue window and when I choose Live TV I initially got what I believe to be an error window but it was not big enough to accommodate the complete error message so I could not tell for sure. All it displayed was "Live TV buffer directory doesn't exist C:\Temp ... "

So I created C:\Temp and tried it again. Now it says "Please wait" for some seconds and then the screen goes to black, remains there and I have to kill the window.

What is wrong?... obviously something is not set up right but I haven't a clue.

Please HELP!

Ok I just purchased the HDHR transcoding dual tuner for $170. This is my first foray into tv tuners connected to a computer.

After using it for a few days I'm wondering if I made a mistake.

The primary reason I purchased it was to make it so I can stream TV real-time throughout the house. It was my understanding that MPEG2 was too large to go through a wireless N network, thus the need for transcoding.

However in my testing I've been able to get decent quality on a 7" tablet in my bedroom when viewing 1080i MPEG2 without transcoding which surprised me. Every once in awhile it had to buffer but it wasn't frequent enough to bother me too much. Do you think the loss in quality would be more noticeable if I was watching on a bigger screen such as another TV instead of a 7" tablet.

The HDHR is connected directly to my PC in the family room, right beside the TV, so there aren't any issues there because its all going over the wire.

So now I'm wondering did I spend a lot of money for something I didn't need? I would still need to transcode the videos to save space but that could be set up as a nightly job I think. Another factor is that half the time I don't even watch TV real time I watch it a few days later after its been recorded, so transcoding via a nightly job would have already taken place by then.

Thoughts? One other thing I don't like about the HDHR Plus is that it has a loud fan on it.

If I return it unfortunately I have to pay a 15% restocking fee which will be about $25, but I will still save quite a bit of cash by buying the 3rd generation HDHR dual transcoder.

Hi guys,
I'm attempting to install on a newly built HTPC running Windows 7 64-bit, using a Hauppauge HVR-2250 tuner card. I have installed .NET 4.5.1, DirectX 9.0 (from the R1A patch thread), NextPVR version 3.1.1, and patch R1A. I've tried running with and without the local versions of the VC runtime files, though I have the full redists installed. And yet...

The settings page in NextPVR always shows that DirectX isn't available, though allegedly version 9 is installed, in addition to version 11. And three pages in settings crash like the screen below.

Is there hope? Log files attached. Thanks.

In Linux, I'm able to see the TV signal strength during LiveTV broadcasts with tvheadend PVR addon for XBMC. Signal/device details are included too.



Now, in Windows, there's no TV signal strength with the NextPVR addon for XBMC. For some reason, it even says Receiving device disabled and Device status disabled.



I have the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950Q USB TV tuner, tuning into ATSC over the air broadcasts. In LiveTV -> Playback settings, I have checked "Show signal quality"

Has anybody gotten TV signal strength working in XBMC?
