general Questions | TV/Radio mixed up | Channel ordering | Channel Scan
Posted by: Owel - 2012-10-25, 06:41 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hi guys.

I'm new to NPVR. My first impression is, that this is the first pvr that works out of the box. It's awesome easy to get liveTv Smile

First my System:
Intel Atom with 4Gb Ram running Windows 7 64Bit on it
TV Card: DigitalDevices Cine S2 v5
Location: Germany
I'm also using XBMC (nightlies) with NPVR addon.

Yesterday i tried some more with npvr and now i have some Questions.

Questions:
#1) Radio and TV are mixed up. So when i watch live TV and im zapping, then there is often a radio channel occurring. How can i separate TV and Radio? Is the group thing the way to go? Will XBMC get it?

#2) I want to order the channels. Is there a comfortable way? Ordering in the Bulk map is not very handy; is there an easier way? By doing it in the Bulk map i found out, that two different channels can have the same channel number (Bug?) - kind of funny when zapping. Also there is the problem when inserting a new channel in an already orderd list i have to edit all channels after the new channel position and increment (+1) their channel number. Is there a way of drag'n'drop (like 4TR has)?

#3) When i scan with NPVR i find about 320 channels (radio+TV). When my digital sat recorder scans, it will find about 1200 channels (TV only). Can you give me a hint how i can find more Channels? (there are some missing, like : "das Erste HD") Or how I can find the error? Which logs can i check?

#4) I have a Problem with some channels. They are found by scan but when i want to watch them, the screen remains black and a message is shown "channel currently not available" (something like this, i don't know the exact message at the moment). "ZDF HD" is an example. Any suggestions?

#5) During scan, the type of the Channel is shown (SD, HD, radio) is there a way to see this information when ordering channels? Some Channels have the same name but one Channel is SD, the other is HD. When ordering channels, you can't see which of the two is the SD and which is the HD.

So that's it for the moment

Thanks for your help
Owel

  Experience with the CuBox
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-10-25, 01:07 AM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (3)

Here is an idea of how the CuBox http://www.solid-run.com/ works with livetv from NextPVR

http://youtu.be/Z7i6hJpjFao

The channels played are

1080i
720p
720p h264
480i

This is using a recent armhf update to a specialized xbmc distro called GeeXbox Overall it is pretty responsive although the microSD card writing seems slow. UI speed is probably on par with my OpenElec ION machine and better than the Pivos XS but the video playback of 720p seems to have slow scaling, 1080i is better.

Overall while it has a nice form factor sata support, a few linux distros and lots of RAM 1GB, it is a bit expensive compared to the market and GeeXbox doesn't support sub's plugin. It might end up being a MySQL engine for my many xbmc boxes when Frodo stabilizes.

  Black Screen When Switching Apps
Posted by: ga_mueller - 2012-10-25, 12:45 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Finished converting from gbpvr to npvr this afternoon... remarkably painless. Only one minor issue. On my single client (Atom230/Ion/Win7) I run npvr and xbmc concurrently, and switch between apps using a keyboard short cut programmed on my remote. (I don't run xbmc as a custom task because the wimpy processor just takes too long to launch and kill xbmc.) One app switch goes fine, but the second shows a black screen in npvr. Hitting any button on the remote then brings up npvr. It's very reproducible. Searching the forums found a similar problem, but this was because VNC was running (it's not). I've tried:

- every renderer (vmr7 to evr)
- full screen/not
- vsync/not

No biggie, just wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'll grab the logs, if anyone thinks it might be helpful.

On a positive note, both server and client were configured in an afternoon:
- A huge fistpump, when, after configuring the first tuner, I was asked if the second should be autoconfigured the same way!
- Comskip timing is perfect. As good as dvr-ms.
- Live TV works as well on the client, as on the server (with dvr-ms live TV was a no go)
The only "customizing" I did was to increase some of the font sizes for the default skin.

Kudos for a super job by sub!

  Recordings grouped by series/title?
Posted by: cncb - 2012-10-24, 06:09 PM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (1)

Have you considered adding any grouping/sorting capability to the "All Recordings" view? In particular, I would be interested in having them grouped by series/title like it is presented in sub's addon. Thanks.

  WinTV-DCR-2650 not listed in devices

Trying to set up a Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650 with NextPVR and it's not listed in the devices setting. Is this compatible with NextPVR?
Thanks, Tom

  Channel & EPG configuration
Posted by: 2010 - 2012-10-24, 04:04 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

Hello NextPVR's,

I have been trialling NPVR for a couple of weeks now and despite XBMC's (PVR) shortcomings I am really impressed. Multidec is a revelation compared with getting encrypted channels working with Mediaportal, streaming live HDTV across my 200mbs homeplugs is glitch free and I like NEWA.

However, because I've been testing the quality/robustness of the TV server I haven't invested any time in sorting channels and the EPG and I'm just wondering if there are any shortcuts? In Mediaportal a couple of developers have created brilliant plugins that organise all the Sky channels/groups and grab the EPG, I don't think there is anything similar for NPVR but is it possible to copy someone's channel list file or do I have to manually configure it?

Also, how are UK users getting the full Sky EPG?

  Subtitles on startup?
Posted by: manwe - 2012-10-24, 02:41 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I have NextPVR starting up straight to LiveTV. Is there a way to get subtitles by default, or do I have to select them every time from the right-click menu?

What is it with the poor quality of DVB-S/S2 cards?
Posted by: siliconaudio - 2012-10-24, 09:11 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

Every single PCI or PCIe DVB-S/S2 card I have ever bought has failed after 12 to 18 months of use.

Some of them have been TwinHan/Azurewave, TBS, Generic. It seems they eventually fail from heat failure. Some of the models that use BGA chips seem to get dry-joints under the chip..

My latest card, a TBS6981 has just died at 13 month old. It went intermittent a couple of days ago and is now dead. My PC won't even see it in device manager any more. My HTPC doesn't have a whole lot of fans, but it is very well ventilated. I have an expensive, high quality, quiet power supply.

I've been building PCs for 20 years and never seen so many failures in other types of device. So what's up with DVB-S cards? Why are they so failure prone? No other components have failed in my HTPC.

I love NextPVR, but with the high failure rate of these cards, I'm almost ready to give up. For all the money I have poured down the drain with these cards, I could have purchased a very nice commercial unit. Is it time to throw the towel in?

Just want to manually record Colossus capture while watching - how do I do it???
Posted by: AlanMintaka - 2012-10-24, 04:09 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Hi,
I want to do something very simple with this software but I can't seem to find the basic functions in the large number of recordings features. I've already configured NextPVR to recognize my Hauppauge Colossus card, and I've defined one channel for the component video/analog audio input. I can watch LiveTV successfully. It's managing recordings manually that's the problem

All I want do do:
Start NextPVR
Define an output folder for captured files
Enable LiveTV
Manually Start and Stop Recording while I'm watching without having to start and exit NextPVT every time I want to start and stop a recording. Obviously I don't want or need to use the NextPVT recording service, because I'm not going to schedule anything in advance.

That's all. I take care of all tuning with the source video device, a DirecTV Series 3 HD receiver which outputs component video and analog audio to the Colossus.

Most of the other capture programs I've been trying with this card have very simple start-stop recording controls while watching live TV. The closest I've been able to come with NextPVR is to start the program when I want to start recording, exit the program when I want to stop, then copy the live TV recording buffer file to another folder for permanent storage as a recorded program. This seems like the long way around.

Isn't there a Live TV view that has start-stop recordings in it that I can use independent of any external tuning I'm doing with the DirecTV receiver?

Please excuse my stupidity here.

BTW: the reason I don't use those "other" capture programs is because the few that can recognize the Colossus can't capture 1080i video without dropped frames. Users in the Hauppauge forum reporting similar problems with this card said that they got better results with NextPVR .

Thanks for your time,
Alan Mintaka

Manual record --> Cannot have multiple items selected in a DropDownList
Posted by: Svekke - 2012-10-23, 07:27 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (1)

Like you can see in the attachment, i get an error in the manual record functionality ( http://localhost:8866 ).
I didn't select something special. Only filled in a name and changed the time's. Other -->defaults.

What could be the problem?

I have also some problems with viewing live tv on xbmc client.
I have a server with a tuner card. That need to sends the stream to my client.
A pc with the xbmc ( frodo ) and nextpvr addon. But it is lagging.

Network connection is OK. Uses not more then 1% from my network connection.

Should i open a new topic for that problem ? Or ...
