I have been using gbpvr/npvr for years and now I am stuck at a fork in the road due to Comcast. Basically what I have concluded in order for me to be able to continue to record the shows of my choosing providing they aren't protected, I either need to invest in one of four devices. A Hauppauge HD-PVR, Colossus, 2650, or a Ceton card. Due to its ability of being able to record multiple tv shows I am leaning towards the Ceton card, but based off of what I have been reading the 2650 might be the "better" choice. Is it too soon to do a comparsion of the two or do they both pretty much provide the same result?

Not much new but I'm hoping I've finally cracked the Timeslot view having duplicate entries. Assuming that's fixed, I'll concentrate on some more significant additions over the next week or two.
I use /etc/mvpmc/ether-wake <MAC ADDRESS> in startmeup but my PC is determined not to wake.
Wondering if trying via my tomato based router for whuch I followed some script stuff many years ago, and works for remote waking, would work instead?
I am not sure if this is a PCH or a NPVR issue, but I have been getting an issue with slowdowns / lockups on very long movies (2.5~3 hrs). I use comskip and was wondering if it has issues with that?
The logs hopefully show an issue while watching the Da Vinci Code. I had to end up stopping it, going upstairs, viewing with VLC for a few secs then going back to the show. This happened about 5 times, all towards the end of the show.
Would any of the following cause the database to get corrupted ?
- Deleting a recording from the recordings folder using the Videos sub-menu.
- Deleting a recording from the recordings folder using windows.
- Deleting a video file from one of the defined Videos folders using the Videos sub-menu.
- Deleting a video file from one of the defined Videos folders using windows.
- Moving a recording file from the recordings folder to one of the defined Videos folders (drag and drop).
How does NPVR reconcile these changes ?
I ask because it appears that I am more likely to see a crash post these sorts of actions - but I will need to dig around a bit more to confirm.
I am currently using a Hauppauge HVR-1250 with NPVR to record clear-QAM channels, and I've been quite happy with it. With the new cablecard devices like the DCR-2650, I'm hoping to be able to dump my cable company DVR, and I have a few questions. I've read a number of threads here and think I know the answers, but just wanted to make sure of a few things.
First, I'm planning on adding the 2650 on to my current setup. With my current card, I am able to use the single tuner to record two programs on the same time for a couple channels which are on the same frequency. I seem to be reading here that the 2650 with a cablecard can't do that - only 1 program per tuner, total of 2 at a time. Is this right?
Assuming this is correct, in theory if there were two programs on the channels on the same frequency, I could record 4 shows at one time, right? Is there a particular way to arrange the tuners in my list to make sure NPVR picks up to schedule the two programs to the one HVR-1250 tuner? Or is it smart enough to figure that out?
Next, I currently just use NPVR to record programs which I stream over my network to my PS3 for viewing via TVersity. Most of the time, this is going to be with channels which are "copy freely" from what I can tell, so it should work well. But there might on occasion be some "copy once" programming that I might record (Free Showtime for 6 months!). I know I can only watch those programs through Windows Media Center and extenders, but it appears there is a method where I can still use NPVR to record those programs? I was a little confused by the things I saw about this, so any hints/explanations about that would be great.

I see the special icon in the recordings list but I don't see the actual error message anywhere. It would be great if this were displayed in the Recording popup somewhere.
It looks like Americans will soon see what its like in Canada without ClearQAM http://www.missingremote.com/news/2011-1...am-goodbye If that doesn't sound bad enough, the lead-in gloom and doom over cable providers going after the analog hole and copy-freely next is ominous. I already pay $150 for cable and internet per month right now how and this new "four screen" world sure is not what I expected, especially if Microsoft is simply conceded the PC screen.
There has been a lot of discussion of late about NPVR extenders, this has been driven by a few things, Sage being scooped up by google, A100 and A110 supplies drying up and Martin feeling that the love for extenders isn't there, so I'd like to let you know where I'm at.
For me extenders makes NPVR amazing, I remember getting an ebay MVP for gbpvr and suddenly I saw the future of integrated media, and the PCH just made it a better experience. These days I have a PCH in the bedroom and a PC client in the Kitchen...and dare I say it but I prefer the pc client.
Most if not all of the video render/sync issues are now gone with windows 7, and the new low power low cost APU's mean the boxes are small and in some cases silent, cost wise you can put a box together for £200 -£250 and it's only going to get cheaper as time goes by, price wise it's not a massive leap over a PCH (if you can get one) and the functionality you get from having a fully blown pc is easily worth the extra cash in my opinion but the biggest issue is having to fork out for win7, it kind of kills the idea on a cost basis.
I see that android has now been ported to x86 AMD, is this an opportunity to develop a client on a stable open source platform? or perhaps some other flavour of Linux? Of course this is easy for me to say from the simplistic view as an end user who doesn't code this stuff, and maybe I'm alone in thinking this but I'd like to know what others think.
Anyway to summarise, my view is that the future of NPVR extenders is PC based.....I just wish the OS wasn't so damn expensive.
