Is Windows Home Server 2011 useful?
Posted by: HarryH3 - 2011-11-20, 03:50 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

So I'm playing around with WHS 2011 on a spare box. But after setting it up and reading more about it online, it seems that WHS is little more than an expensive NAS. Microsoft has dire warnings about installing other apps on WHS, claiming they may "break" the server. WTF? I'd like to use this PC as a server/HTPC/browser via the TV. Can this be done with WHS or would it be better to just install Windows 7? I just wonder if there is some magic in WHS that isn't obvious to me.

  TV Listings 3.5.1 released
Posted by: alibert - 2011-11-20, 09:08 AM - Forum: Community Announcements - No Replies

Hi,

I've just uploaded a new version of the TVListings plugin at the wiki.

Changelog:

Quote:- added additional check to recognize external EPG updates
- fixed fallback mechanism for multiple possible images
- fixed opening the default manual recording popup
- changed keymapping to toggle the current guide from Ctrl+Y to Alt+Y (yellow button)
- updated amazon lookup to reflect API changes of the webservice
- added support for the numpad keys to jump to a specific channel in the listings

Please note the following when upgrading:
- the new version does not contains skin changes
- there's no need to overwrite an existing "TV Listings.db" database file during upgrade
- by default, the plugin sends information about the next recordings to the 'now playing' notification area on the main screen, this can be configured through the settings form of the plugin

Unable to use ATI 550 and 650 together
Posted by: Paul343 - 2011-11-19, 09:29 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

I would really appreciate any insight that someone may have.... it seems there is a tremendous amount of knowledge on this forum.

I have looked through the forums for an answer to this, but have yet to find anything, so....

The issue occurs when I am recording one show and try to watch another or have two recording set to go at the same time. With live TV, as soon as the second show attempts to start, NPVR says" ... unable to communicate with the recording service..." With a simultaneous recording NPVR doesn't work either, but I don't have that on the attached Log files.

Basics of the system:
Win7 64 bit
TV Tuner 1: ATI 550 Pro
TV Tuner 2: ATI 650 Pro

Both are used only in analog and the workaround of analog cards using WinTV7 was used so that the program would see the cards.

Note both cards are available on Window Media Center, and two shows can be recorded there simultaneously, so I think it is some setting within NextPVR.

I have tried both the latest updates and the bare 2.2.6 versions of NPVR, and a few different versions of the ATI software, and also left the system use only the files that Windows uses in the absence of any ATI drivers. All versions of the driver software work with WMC.

I have removed one card at a time, and both work individually without issue.

This only happens when I attempt to use the cards at the same time.

Has anybody seen this before, or have any ideas of this to try?

I would really appreciate anything you folks may have!

Paul

  nPVR Unhandled Exception
Posted by: smajor - 2011-11-19, 09:17 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I upgraded my server where my Videos reside (not TV Recordings). Now, when trying to access a directory on that server with nPVR, I get an Unhandled Exception. Happens on the clients too. There isn't a bit of info in the logs either.

-Win 7. -Server is mapped (MSmile. I *can* browser the server drive and play anything with WMP or VNC. Drive is read/writable.

Here's the error from the dialog:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

  Hauppauge HVR-930C: Using analog channels?
Posted by: fabhoff - 2011-11-19, 07:21 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Hi,

I have a Hauppauge HVR-930C. It is supposed to receive not only DVB-c and DVB-T but also analog channels. Unfortunatly I can not scan them with NPVR. The device shows up only for types DVB-C and DVB-T but not for analog. Does anybody know, how I can scan and reveive the analog channels as well?

LAV video decoder and H.264 -> black screen
Posted by: Reddwarf - 2011-11-19, 07:02 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I'm trying to use LAV video decoder (v0.38) with a NVIDIA GF6200 TurboCache, but I get only black screen. No OSD no nothing. Anyone know what settings I should use, or if it even works? Do I need madVR renderer?

DVD (folder) Resume Point Is Not Global
Posted by: cncb - 2011-11-19, 06:49 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

It seems that when resuming a DVD (VIDEO_TS folder on HD) from client PCs that the resume point is local, not global. That is, it resumes at the point where it was stopped on that client PC instead of sharing the resume point with other client PCs as it seems to do for all other video types.

imperfect playback win7 HD Homerun NPVR
Posted by: msea2011 - 2011-11-19, 09:29 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hello, I recently installed NPVR on my win7 system using silicondust HD Homerun single tuner. The quality is fairly good, but has imperfections, in terms of blips/very short freezes or delays in the audio for sure, less noticeably on the video (?)

Here are my system specs>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
win7 / i3 3.0Ghz / 4 GB RAM / Win7 HP
intel integrated graphics: is this a problem ?
NPVR settings> video renderer-EVR, audio renderer- default/directsound speakers,
codecs>microsoft DTV-DVD for everything except AC3 audio:AC3Filter
180W power

HOWEVER, I will say that if I use the quickTV application offered from SiliconDust, I can watch HD live streams with NONE of the imperfections noticed from within N-PVR -- it's a quick, small application from the manufacturer

I have thought about upgrading my video to a standalone card, although I am concerned about power (180W) in this slim line desktop unit (lenovo H320)

Thanks for input!

Anyone have experience of social networking APIs?
Posted by: bgowland - 2011-11-18, 12:05 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (3)

I'm actually just fishing to see if any devs have experience of APIs for facebook, linkedin, twitter, iGoogle, Google+ etc.

I've got an idea simmering for a 'social networking' plugin for NextPVR and was wondering if anyone would like to collaborate. Any thoughts / comments welcome.

Cheers,

  NPVR has become unstable
Posted by: TV_Tiger - 2011-11-18, 08:24 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

NPVR seem to become unstable, and hangs when I change channels. I have been using R2, and now 17 Nov Final patches.
Probably try to uninstall NPVR, and start again.
Has anyone else seen this? I'm using Win7 64bit.
