I have seen the message "Async stop taking way too long" mentioned elsewhere with hints that it is a bad thing.
My reception is dodgy and variable especially on one specific mux. I recorded a channel on this dodgy mux. The playback showed a good recording at first but eventually the playback showed only a black screen.
I went to NPVR Settings and clicked Status and NPVR froze.
The nrecord log showed

I have done this or something similar several times in recent days. I should be able to reproduce the problem.
For me, when a recording ends on a mux with dodgy reception and if the recording had stopped capturing video properly then I will see "Async stop taking way too long" and it's all downhill from there.
I'm owner of WinFast DTV2000 H Plus Video and I've got interesting issue when trying to use NextPVR. Firstly I had to change name of video pin to "Analog Video In" in registry to make NPVR see it (even new Unmanaged.dll didn't help). Then I tried to search for analog channels, it returned nothing. So I tried to search for channels in Windows Media Center and it found all of them. It seemed to be working for now. But interestingly when I reboot my pc NPVR shows blue screen (in all channels). So i need to start Windows Media Center, click "Watch live TV", close it and start NPVR and it works great.
What's interesting log before starting WMC is nearly the same after doing this.
Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Thanks.
I originally posted some of my batch files here. But I've since made quite a few changes. The main one is the ManualRenameRecordings file that I will explain about here. You can download the file from my site here. As before, if it's useful to you, clicking on an ad on my site or using the site search will get me a fraction of a cent from Google!
Now that my PostProcessing.bat only renames files that have a title AND a subtitle. I wanted something to give me control over changing the names of the other recordings that don't have (or need) a subtitle. This can still be used to rename those files after processing as long as they are still referenced in the NextPVR database. It gives you total control to quickly give your recordings sensible names with easy access to the information NextPVR has stored about them. The ManualRenameRecording.bat is my solution to this.
The first job is to allow your video files to easily open in it:-
Just right-click on a video file in Windows and choose "Open With"
Then click on "Choose Program...".
In the new window that loads, click the "Browse" button and go to the folder below (for Windows XP):-
C:\
Documents and Settings\
All Users\
Application Data\
NPVR\
Scripts\
Double-click on the ManualRenameRecordings batch file
VERY IMPORTANT: make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is NOT NOT NOT ticked. Otherwise it will try to rename a recording instead of playing it when you double-click on it.
Then click "OK"
Now you can right-click on your recordings, click on "Open With" choose "ManualRenameRecordings" and it will open in my batch flie.
Once the video has been opened by the batch, it will look-up the subtitle, title and description in the NextPVR database. If it finds a subtitle it will automatically suggest the name "title - subtitle". If you don't want this, just press n and then you can choose what the name will be. If you do want it like that, just press Y! If there is no subtitle found, it will automatically skip to the step below...
The batch will then display the title, subtitle (if there is one) and description and you can write or copy & paste the new filename in. It will double-check you are happy with the final name before renaming so there is no danger here.
I have it setup to automatically put the title at the front of every new filename. If you don't like this, you will have to edit the batch file. If it's a movie & you don't want it to be called "title - blah", just press enter when asked what you want it to be and it will just call the file "title".
Once you have confirmed the full filename displayed to you (either that you have written or automatically generated with a subtitle, the NextPVR database is updated to point your new filename and your file renamed.
I've put quite a lot of time into the error-checking and so it should be pretty easy to see what is wrong when running on different systems to mine and what it is that needs to be changed to get it to work for you.
I would like the same resume/restart popup to be shown for recordings as is shown for videos. This inconsistency in UI behavior has caused me and my family to unintentionally restart recordings several times (selecting 'Play' from the recordings popup instead of 'Resume' and expecting to see the resume/restart popup). I'm sure some of this is us being used to previous PVR software but it would be nice for video playback within NPVR to be more consistent between types.
Can anyone suggest a test to check if NPVR is currently making a recording? The reason is that I want to reboot the server overnight at least weekly and possibly nightly but obviously not if a recording is being made. I want to see if regular reboots reduce the frequency of some Windows and NPVR problems. A typical problem is that sometimes some unknown process prevents the server from sleeping and a reboot cures the problem.
I have a Silicondust HDHomeRun dual tuner and when I go to Settings / Devices / Device Channel / Scan I get no channels showing up (in this case after 17 channels have been scanned).
As you can see in the attachment the tuner shows in the Devices window, but no channel-frequency show up. The tuner does shows activity and all software needed per your installation instructions have been installed. What am I missing?
I recently installed the latest version of npvr & applied the patches as directed. Howevever when I do a channel scan it crashes. I am running windows xp pro on an intel quad core 2.5ghz processor using a pinnacle pctv 2001e dual tuner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I was a long time user of GBPVR, I went away for a while and used Windows 7 Media Center, but now I'm back trying out NPVR!
I've got Verizon Fios (just the basic/local type channels, Clear QAM) running into an HVR-1600, on Windows 7 32bit.
Setup was pretty straightforward, but now I'm finding that I can get a great picture but no audio. Recordings work great, and if I play back the files outside of NPVR (VLC, WMP, etc.) they're perfect. But no audio at all within the app.
I've toyed around with all the codec options, but can't seem to get any of them to produce audio. Any thoughts?
