Dear all,

although I have been operating my GB-PVR/NextPVR system for many years via satellite I never really got to know the intricate workings of an LNB!

I am now in a hurry to upgrade some stuff as some scaffolding is going up for people to work on my roof.

My question?!

Would I be better keeping one dish and sticking an octo LNB on it (currently quad) or having a second dish with a further quad LNB?

My thinking is that I would be better off with 2 x dishes and 2 x quad LNB's as opposed to putting all my eggs into one basket (as it were) with one dish and an octo? But this is not based in any scientific theory on how LNB's work, just my sort of belt and braces approach!

any advice would be most appreciated as my finger is twitching over whether to buy a quad or octo LNB (I have a spare dish)

Teletext subtitles are still mostly some seconds ahead of audio/video, would it be possible to introduce a "subtitles delay"? Preferably possible to set from the remote (or keyboard) by entering alt-D or something?

I am using the late August release, as I don't see what I am about to describe listed in the latest (Sept 10?) patch / release. I have only one tuner and use MC2XML. My system is XP MCE2005.

1. Multiple recordings of the same show at the same time.

I initially set to record some shows once per week, same time slot. Then I saw they were on many times in different time slots, so I set to record all times on the same channel. Or something like that. The main thing is that there were no 'once only' type recordings, just two different multiple ways of selecting the same show on the same channel, on different days and time slots.

So I look and see that the show is actually recorded twice, at the same time. And post processed twice. The only difference is the file name. The first ins named zzzz_yyyy.ts and the second is named zzzz_yyyy_0.ts.

To fix, I delete the entire schedule. Then I set the show to record any and all times, same channel, keep the last 8. This seems to cure it. But this should have not been a problem if the first place.

2. Short recordings. Very short, like 3 minutes.

This happens when back-to-back recordings are scheduled on the same channel. I have the default pre/post padding times. The first starts recording and then when the second pre-padding time starts, the first ends (?), the second starts, but when the firsts post-padding time is up, the second show is ended.

For example:
AAA: 6:00 to 6:30
BBB: 6:30 to 7:00

5:59: AAA starts recording
6:29: BBB starts recording
6:32: BBB stops recording

Hi Martin,

I've been getting this quite a lot lately and it happened twice tonight watching "Rugby World Cup Daily HL" (two separate shows of the same name).

Plays absolutely OK on the PC

I did an update of one of my Hard Disks firmware fairly recently using SeaTools for Windows - could that do something evil to the Hard Disk? The only other things I can think of are a networkcard going TU, or maybe the router, or the PCH itself?

Thoughts?

BDA.INI
Every now and then I get the question about how to get a new TV card to work with GBPVR and the TV card definition file BDA.INI.

If nothing else this is a note to myself.

In order to get XP SP3 server to work with a Win 7 client in streaming mode over wireless G, I needed to change the client PVRX2.exe to compatibility mode XPSP3. Also need to run the win 7 client in EVR mode. Most every video filter I threw at it worked well. I was hoping Horborg would give this a whirl and do some hardware acceleration discoveries.

Hello... I have an ati wonder 650 and am experiencing problems. I have tried all that I have read in this forum with no luck.

I am attaching a .zip file which contains the following:
- analogdevices.xml which I edited
- filtercheck.log
- NPVR.log
- Settings.jpg (snapshot of settings menu trying to add channels)
- SoftPVR folder.jpg (snapshot of explorer showing contents of softPVR folder)

I am very intrigued by this program and how it may work with my Roku media player. I am now at my wits end and need help!

My apologies if this request is already in the release and I'm just not seeing it or understanding it.

My cable provider has added some new HD channels. To add them to NPVR, I found the easiest way is to Import... them for my device, and then uncheck all but the channels I know were added.

This WORKS, but I find that I'm doing this for two tuners, each with 135 existing channels. I also have to be very careful that I'm adding the correct ones, because list time I tried this (one of the first NPVR builds) I ended up with a duplicate channel, on a different channel number, that was difficult to remove.

With that said: an option to "Show Only New" channels when importing, or after the import, just toggle that, would be great. Folks could quickly add new channels without too much of a hassle.

Now, maybe this already exists in some fashion I'm not seeing.

Alternately, GB-PVR, during an EPG update, if there was a new channel, would just add it into the guide without a "manual" addition like I have to do with NPVR. An option for this would likewise be nice because I can see where this wouldn't be a good thing for some. I really miss this in NPVR because now I have to think, "I wonder if my provider added any new channels" and compare their guide to NPVR's to spot the difference(s).

I finally got around to upgrading from GBPVR to NPVR. After installing the new version, my computer doesn't go to sleep as it should. Is NPVR doing something to prevent this?

I also noticed that the System menu no longer exists. Is there a way to determine how much hard drive space is left from within NPVR?
