Newbie Needs General Advice re GBPVR or NPVR with Cable Box
Posted by: classpro - 2011-04-09, 06:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

Although I've been using GBPVR for some years, I am a real newbie at this.

I use GBPVR to record the analog channels from my cable company. I have a Hauppauge analog card. My recording system is becoming increasingly outdated with the many new digital channels that come through my cable box and have better content.

Can someone explain how I would go about getting the hauppauge card to change the channels on the cable box and record from its external analog inputs (s-vga and analog sound) from the cable box (time warner - scientific atlanta HD box)? Is there a better card for recording from the cable box?

Also, I have not tried NPVR, but am curious how people in the US are getting the EPV listings. I've been using schedules direct, but that doesn't work with NPVR? I am just lost in the wiki - so many blank pages and very little general big-picture information.

Thank you in advance.

Any ideas why this is?

  WebRadio 3.6
Posted by: mvallevand - 2011-04-09, 04:00 AM - Forum: UbuStream, Web Radio and Universe - Replies (13)

I have uploaded a new version of WebRadio to the NPVR wiki with the following changes.

- Updates for Shoutcast API 2.0
- Direct support for radiofeeds.co.uk
- Increased player buffer to 160k
- Skinnable tray icon for WebRadio with Now Playing info. Remove WebRadio.ico from Default and active skin to disable this.
- Tweaks to Now Playing.

  Client pc with tuner possible?
Posted by: gonzo90017 - 2011-04-09, 12:36 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I have a tv tuner installed on a client pc but I don't see a way to use it in client mode. I would like to use the tuner only for live tv. That way it doesn't take up one from the server.

  TV Listings in Client pc?
Posted by: gonzo90017 - 2011-04-08, 10:36 PM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (1)

In order for the genres feature to work I must have xmltv extras installed. However since this is a client pc how would I go about doing that since it's a client pc? In other words no xmltv?

SearchLite - Yet Another NPVR Genre Maker
Posted by: mvallevand - 2011-04-08, 08:04 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (12)

Attached is the first beta of SearchLite with genre searching support

To enable it, there is a small program called GenreLite.exe installed in the NPVR Program File folder. This program is designed to create a separate database of genres from your XMLTV and Schedules Direct (SD.xml) file. It has only been tested on my XMLTV files so if it doesn't work could you please upload your XML file and I can see if I can add it.

You can run this at anytime by running GenreLite with no options, however once you have confirmed it is working you can add it to the PostUpdateEPG.bat file

To access genres in SearchLite, Select Genre on the Menu, hit Green or use Alt-G. Doing this a second time show genres filter for movies. Hit it a third time to get back to normal searching.

Not all XMLTV files have complete genre information, but it is possible to link with IMDB genres. It increases the size of the database but it only takes a few minutes and I find it worthwhile to do (probably quarterly will be enough)

To get the required files for IMDB

1) go to http://www.imdb.com/interfaces#plain,
2) select a source
3) download genres.list.gz & ratings.list.gz
4) Using 7zip. untar these to get genres.list and ratings.list
5) Copy genres.list and ratings.list to DataDirectory\Plugins\SearchLite
6) Run GenreLite -i
7) Repeat in 3 or 4 months.

If you don't have an XMLTV file (you use only DVB or ATSC data, I can probably link to IMDB genres too. I'd need to get a copy of your npvr.db3 file to test first.

  Lip sync
Posted by: lemming - 2011-04-08, 07:54 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (34)

Hi All

have made the swap to Npvr, and is mostly working OK. The only major problem I have is major lip sync error in recorded shows. Live TV, or watching from the TV guide is fine. As soon as I start time shifting, or play back a recording , the timing goes out by seconds. I know decoders are blamed usually for this, but I started off with the same config as was working for GBPVR, and then when the problem arrived, jumped into Hoborgs SAF pack. Same result. Seems to effect all channels without discrimination (Freeview NZ)

Are there any dumb settings in the decoders that could cause this??

Cheers

Chris

  Genre colors not working
Posted by: gonzo90017 - 2011-04-08, 05:41 PM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (6)

I made sure TV Listings.xml had ShowGenreColor was set to true but nothing. Is there something else I have to do?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I had installed and ran XMLTVExtras inside the scripts folder.

Recordings "Lost" After Post-Processing - Files Still There
Posted by: pwrmac7100 - 2011-04-08, 03:22 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I've been having the problem where my recordings are no longer shown under 'Recordings' after I run my post-processing routine every night. The problem is actually intermittent...I would say about 67% of the recordings are lost.

I run my post-processing at 12:01AM every evening, converting all files to MP4 (H.264). The conversion routine works flawlessly, the new file is in the same location as the original and has the same name but with the new MP4 extension. The original file is then deleted after the new file is created. However, when I go to 'Recordings', I find that more often than not, the recording is not listed. The new file does exist and is playable, but NPVR seems to have lost the entry for it.

I recently upgraded to NPVR (v2.0.3) from GB-PVR (v1.4.7). I had the problem with GB-PVR and still have it with NPVR.

The only thing I could find in the forums was to change the setting <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> to false. This had the affect that NPVR still lists the episode in Recordings, however, clicking play does nothing (clicking Play just kicks me back to the listing of recordings).

I'm not sure what logs to post, so I am posting NPVR.log . If you go the bottom, you see that I tried to play the file "MLB Baseball...". That is one of the recordings that I cannot play.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  Recurring recordings priority
Posted by: skreien - 2011-04-08, 01:10 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

OK, I know it says in the wiki to use CTRL-Right Arrrow and CTRL-Left Arrow to change the priority of recurring recordings, but I can't get it to change the priority. Whenever I do that it just acts like I didn't press CTRL. Not sure if this has something to do with the fact that I'm working through terminal services to control NPVR?

Anyone else doing this through terminal services? Could that be why?
