On a 4 core machine ffmpeg only uses about utilizes 25-30% of the cpu's. I've looked at recompiling with pthreads, but that does not help. If we could run 2 conversions at the same time we could better utilize the power of a 4 core machine.
Picked up a cheap istar to add as a second client but I'm having a bit of bother getting it to work, I think it's down to the way I'm trying to hook it up to my display, but some basics first...
I have the server and main PCH A100 client hooked directley to my router, due to running out of ports on the router I have then had to use an unmanaged switch to hook up to the istar, the only other thing on the switch is my office computer which I sometimes use as a client (main point being it's not the server) the switch is then plugged into the router.
I can see the share on the PCH and server can also see the istar so I dont think the network is the issue.
The istar has a vga port which I'm trying to use to hook into my office monitor (LCD 1440x900), which is where I think my troubles begin. I can only get a picture on the monitor if I choose 16x10 1440x900 @ 60Hz, some other 1080 @60Hz resolutions work but they are pretty much monochrome. If I use 1440 when I run gbpvr the screen goes black then it kicks back to the NMT front end, if I use a one of the monochrome resolutions the screen goes black and stays black, however I suspect MVPMCX is running because I can back out of the black screen with the power button...just like on my popcorn from the GBPVR front end. I selected 720 when I installed using the NMT installer I knew it wasn't the same as the NMT resolution but didn't have a lot of options.
Any thoughts...am I on the right track, can I just go into config.xml and change the resolution in the MVP section to a custom one or will that break something else?

I have a question about getting my tuner card working in GB-PVR, but first some background:
I'm pretty new to this HTPC thing, and I just decided that pausing and rewinding live TV, as well as TV guides, TV-to-DVD, etc. was just too cool. I took a spare Pentium III/600 at 800MHz with 300 or so MB of RAM and built up an HTPC. At first I was going to use my ATi All-in-wonder Radeon (7200 GPU), but then I found out that it is unsupported by... everything. I then dug out this old AVerTV, plugged it in, installed their little TV-app-thingie, and voila, TV. Not the 10-foot-UI that I want though, so I installed GB-PVR (waaay faster than mediaportal).
ANYWAY
What steps do I need to take to get this AVerTV M-XXXX (I forget what it is, exactly) working under GB-PVR? Is it even supported? And is there some little byte of information on the Wiki somewhere that I'm missing? Perhaps a tutorial on getting cards not listed in the dropdown menu to work?
I dunno, I'm just confused. The autodetect says I don't have any capture cards installed, so...

Looks like I've got GBPVR working without crashing although there are some channels missing. They are the main free-to-air channels in Australia and are the channels I would use most of the time.
I have used the same Antenna in the same position with my TV and have picked up the channels, although sometimes the antenna position needs a little tweaking to get the signal to come through strong.
Is it possible to add the channels manually by frequency?
I have a list of the frequencies for the channels:

Since there is no reaction in Hardware subforum, I am posting my question here.
I am in process of rebuilding my HTPC. Two cards I am currently looking are Avermedia AVerTV Digi Super 007 and Gigabyte GT-P8000. The price are similar.
Basically, I heard both are good and I won't make an mistake whichever I buy.
But, my question here is: which one goes along better with GBPVR (i.e. PVRX2)?
Whose remote is more useful/easy to use either with GBPVR or with other software? Can they (remotes) be customized via LM Remote KeyMap or similar software?

I've just got a Hauppauge HVR 1950 external USB tuner. I was set to use it on Windows Media Center (basically by default, as I already own it), until I found out that the IR blaster function of the HVR 1950 won't work on MCE - you need to buy a separate Windows Media Center certified remote. Confirmed it during the install... the video portion works fine, but can't proceed past the IR Blaster setup screen.
Enough of that noise.
I see that GB-PVR supports the Hauppauge series quite well. Will the IR Blaster (using the Hauppauge remote and IR Blaster, which plugs directly into the external Hauppauge USB box) work with GB-PVR?
The screenshots for GB-PVR look really impressive!!
Sorry, if there are thread about this. I cant it find anyway. I have problem with dual audio mkv and avi files. How I can choose which audio plays? Gbpvr is 1.4.7. and OS Win XP.

New to the forums and to using the software.
About 2 week ago, I tried using the software and I loved it. It worked fine with watching live TV and recording.
Anyways, due to other system issues, I formatted my PC and reinstalled everything.
Now, whenever I try to watch live TV, the software crashes with the error: "PVRX2 has stopped working".
I read somewhere that it is probably decoder related, all my decoders are set to system default, as they were previously.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how I can overcome this?
I really hate using the package that came with my card as GBPVR is so much better.
I apologise if this has been covered before, but I did try searching and was unable to find enlightenment.

System is Vista 32bit
Tuner card is a no-name brand bought from ebay. Config Detects it as "Easy TV DVB-T"
Also, I do not have any codec packs installed as I usually use VLC media player. Only codec pack installed is the TVersity codec pack which is used to transcode movies from my PC to my Xbox 360.
Could that have anything to do with it?
I am not sure which logs to include so I have just included everything from my logs folder.

I can do a scan on all my channels and they show up correctly... BUT! they are all encrypted There is one channel i'm able to see, which is the only unencrypted channel, but for the rest i just see the this channel is currently encrypted message.
The tuner is working fine, if i use the Terratec Home Cinema program i can watch all the channels without problem.
I tried with and without MDAPI filter, no difference. No plugins though since i don't really know what this filter is all about.
OK, I screwed something up, not sure what, but something.
I attempted to install the latest EWA (in an attempt to get web admin working). I thought that I followed the instructions correctly, but must not have. So, I go to start config and I get a window attempting to install something. It works through several progress windows and then config starts. The problem is that this happens every time I start config. So, I thought I would be slick and attempt a repair installation. The problem is that the repair install will begin to repair the web directory, gets close to the end and then rolls back the repair. I even attempted to completely delete the contents of the web folder to allow the repair installation to work all of the way through. Unfortunately, the same thing still occurs. So, what did I do and can I fix it without completely reinstalling GBPVR?
