As previous posts over the years has indicated, I'm totally dependent on this excellent plugin, that adds to GBPVR what to me is an absolute central functionality in GBPVR.
As it seems that you will no longer be developing VA, or even using GBPVR, is it possible for you to consider donating the code to the community for someone else to pick up on what to me (and I believe others) is an indispensible plugin.
I've been messing around with this for a while, thought I had a solution, but have still run into problems, so I thought I'd look for help. I'm posting this in a number of support forums for the various parts of the equation in hope of finding a solution SOMEWHERE.
As the title says, I am using GB-PVR to capture (and convert) Clear-QAM HD broadcasts on a WinTV-HVR-1250 tuner card, streaming the results wirelessly using the TVersity media server software to my PS3. The problem is finding a reliable setup to do this.
I have tried the variety of capture options with GB-PVR (DVR-MS,TS-Mux, Full-TS, a couple Cyberlink muxes) in combination with a few conversion procedures (Xvid, MPG2, using ffmpeg, mencoder, other things I can't even remember now), and thought I had finally come up with a working model using TS-Mux converted to Xvid with ffmpeg, but I've had some gliches with that, so I'm looking for help.
The captures all seem to work okay, I think - some of them don't play well with Media Player 9 on my XP system, but they all seem to be there - the trouble seems to be a conversion that works streaming to the PS3. The plain capture files aren't good enough, as I need to at least convert down the bitrate in order to stream wirelessly, and I keep getting "corrupt data" messages when I try to use TVersity to stream the TS files, anyway.
So, is there anyone out there who has something similar working who can give me some clues as to what to try? With network premiere season upon us, I'm sure someone is going to program 3 shows I am interested in looking at opposite one another, so I'd like to have this working.
I recently re-setup my HDHR. It hadn't been working since I last upgraded gb-pvr, which I finally realized was related to my bda.ini being updated. However, I had already started setting it up from scratch again when I figured that out, so I continued.
Finally got it all working but now it takes about 1 minute to start watching live tv. When I look at the logs there's a couple strange thing I see... two references to tuners I don't have and never have had:

I am using the HdhrProgramFilter.exe program to change channels but it doesn't appear that this is the problem. The other failure message I've noticed in the log occurs here:

I was just having fun speccing out a build for the client I'm aiming for. Parts are tentative since I won't be building one until March '09 (when I've paid off my Newegg preferred account and coincides nicely w/pay raise). It's just amazing to see how much hardware prices have gone down.

Notes:
The "core" of the system (MB/CPU/GPU/RAM) only costs $232, provides excellent post-processing for DVD's and HDTV, and gives you multi-channel LPCM for Blu-ray.
Case+PSU is more than a third of the price of the build. HTPC is going inside an AV rack and the LIAN LI is the cheapest AV component-looking case I've seen which wouldn't stick out (depth-wise).
Remote - thinking of the Logitech Harmony 550, often available from Amazon for $50.
Keyboard and mouse - thinking of the Logitech diNovo Edge, quite expensive at $150 already on sale. For now, I've got an extra Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 which I scored for $15 from Staples' Friday sale.
Optical drive - will likely install Blu-ray eventually, maybe when drives have gone down to $50~80.
Storage - 1TB is rather large for a client, but with low hard drive prices, why not?
I'm just glad my dad's an audiophile. He's the one buying B&W 600 series speakers and his set-up is likely to cost more than the HTPC + 2 Popcorn Hour clients I'm planning. :p Then again, I've already spent more than $3000 over the past year on the the GB-PVR + unRAID servers (including TV tuners), with the biggest expense being storage. *sigh* HTPC's are an expensive hobby... :o
I must have some garbage in a saved video, because XRecord stopped being able to load my archived videos ages ago...

Its barfing in showimportdata... It would be cool if instead of bombing out when it ran into something it didn't like, it just tossed that show info (or otherwise gracefully handled it)

I would like to see there be the three previous versions of recording.dump.xml rather than the current one version. This would allow us to be able to go back several versions if for some reason the more recent version(s) are not adequate for restoring.
I first learned about this wonderful restore point when I added a dedicated disk to store all my GBPVR recordings. When I moved them to the new disk, I lost all the episode descriptions. I was able to recover them when someone on these forums pointed me to the Import feature using recording-dump.xml.
The presence of only one recording-dump.xml file became an issue for me today. Since I had been having problems due to channel lineup changes by my cable provider, I tried using ChangeEPGSources, which I saw mentioned today. Unfortunately, I had some problems and it took multiple tries to get it to work successfully. My list of recordings went AWOL. Unfortunately, by this time recording-dump.xml had nothing in it.
What I would like to see is when recording-dump.xml is created, the program save earlier versions. For example, the files might be renamed such that in addition to recording-dump.xml, there would be recording-dump 1.xml, recording-dump 2.xml, recording-dump 3.xml, each time droipping the previous oldest version. Then we could use the version we want with the Import function.
This would allow us a longer time to recover the episode information.
I know that it isn't often that Import is used but when it is needed this change (which I think would be easy to implement) would be very useful.
I should start by saying I have gone back and forth between Vista and XP on my HTPC about 4 times since July, and I also downloaded PVRX2 1.2.13 right around then. I don't know if that is related or not. I looked through the forums and haven't seen this anywhere else.
1. When I enter Config in either XP or Vista, the Windows Installer comes up saying it's configureing GBPVR. I hit cancel and it comes up again. Cancel again and Config starts and works normally. Not groundbreaking, but a pain.
2. I use IRServer Suite, and I tried both 1.4.1 and 1.4.2, and get the same thing. Before I would program a systemwide button to start PVRX2 and check the button for focus, and it would start in focus each time. Now that doesn't seem to work. Most of the time PVRX@ starts out of focus till I click on it. Again, not the end of the world.
Now the question. There seem to be 3 recording modes. 2 from the guide popup, record and quick record. What is the difference? Also, in Live TV, if you hit pause, it drops into record. Where does that fit in?
BTW, let me say here I have tried a bunch of "Media Center" type programs and PVRX2 has got to be the best! Looks good, works good, and is very flexible. Thanks Sub!!
I have been experimenting MovieWiz for a month now and here are my experiences.
My setup:
1. GBPVR on PC1 - PC1 is wired connected to a NAS (gigabyte LAN)
2. Client using wireless G to connect to PC1 and displayed on plasma TV
Before people start bashing me that wireless G is not good enough - I will have to tell them it depends on the reception. For me ALL the movies play flawlessly over the G network.
MovieWiz interface is very slow. For example when I change categories, it takes forever....(my catalog contains > 150 entries).
When I exit from the GBPVR interface the MovieWiz does some processing...and it takes forever to exit from GBPVR
My observation is to drive all the meta data from folder (say an XML file) rather than database - yes including categories and content. If the movie can play well, then the user interface should keep up with it.
I have removed MovieWiz and am using the regular "Video Library" from GBPVR and it works like a charm.
HI I have built a pc pvr system. The system consist of a flat screen (ir), pioneer receiver (ir), cable DSTB (ir), HDMI channel selector (ir), and blue-ray stb disk player(ir), and PC (pvr). All the comononets minus the plasma are stored in a cabinet with doors shut.
I was hoping to obtain a newer rf/ir remote that has good ir learning capability and contatins ir blaster capability at the rf receiver module. I could control the plasma with a ir emiiter inside the hand held remote. I could then control all the ir based components with ir blaster wires inside the cabinit via the rf receiver. Additionally I would need suport configuration software that would allow me to designate ir blasts based uopn programmable events and channel changing capability for the DSTB. I use PVRX2. Can anyone recommend a range/any of remotes that would work for this application. Your thoughts appreciated.
