I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Regular cable used to work, but ever since I got QAM working (I had the cable plugged into the analog port), regular cable has not worked.
Now I've got my cable line running to a splitter, and then to BOTH ports on the HVR 1600. Unless I'm mistaken this should enable the digital port to get QAM, and the analog port to get everything else. But like I said, ever since I got QAM working I have not been able to tune any analog channels. Just get a blank screen for between 1 - 10 seconds, than back to the program guide.

How do I set 'default' actions in HIP? i.e. how do I configure what happens when I press a remote button and GBPVR isn't running?
Basically (to start with anyway) all I wan't to do is map the MCE start button to launch GBPVR but as far as I can see every set of key maps is tied to a specific program. How do I create a map when no program is running?
I've tried mapping to explorer.exe, but it seems to work once and then not again, and is completely useless if I've got another program in focus (firefox, notepad, whatever....)

Not an issue but more of a question. I'm not sure what has changed but the dopler map for the weather plugin used to be the same as say the 100 mile image from weather.com. It is now showing a big overview of the whole state and doesn't really help in telling where the rain is. Is there a setting that I need to change to get a smaller map?
I thought I'd noticed this once or twice, but ignored it - but now I can reproduce it on both machines all the time.
Set up a recording via TV Guide with pre-padding.
When it starts recording, but before the programme start time (i.e. in the pre-padding timeslot) - cancel the recording from the "pending recordings" screen.
The recording disappears from the pending list as expected, but doesn't appear in the "new" list as normally happens. Also the tray icon is still green and the file is still on disk and growing. At this point I restarted the recording service and it stopped recording, but still didn't appear in teh "new" or "pending" lists. The file is still there on disk as an orphan

recording service shows it as starting recording at 2008-07-09 17:38:57.468
pvrx2 shows the cancel somewhere around 17:39:16
In LiveTV (GBPVR version 1.2.13) I don't have an on-screen, clickable quick record button. I've been getting by using the ctrl-k keystroke, but an on-screen button would be helpful. From what I can tell, a button is supposed to be there. Am I wrong?
Also, is there any way to record hi-def tv in dvd-compatible mpeg2 format rather than a transport stream?

I've got some hauppauge ir blaster cables, and an MCE IR receiver unit. unfortunately the HP blasters have too small a plug on them to fit the MCE receiver. I'm guessing I can just snip the blasters off the HP plug and solder them onto a larger jack plug and it'll work in the MCE receiver, but what should the correct MCE blaster plug look like? It looks like a 3.5mm headphone type socket, but is it two or three connections (mono or stereo type headphone jack)???
just got an mce remote and got it set up with hip (thanks to a great step-by-step on the wiki) but what keystrokes do i map star * and hash # to to get the phone type letter entering for pqrs and wxyz?
I'm seeing a couple of minor issues, which may disappear with time. I'm posting mostly to try to pick up info on how things work, whether what I'm seeing has an explanation and what I should look for to figure out if I've got an ongoing problem. Thanks in advance for any comments or help.
Background: This is a new installation, with a single HVR-1600, GBPVR 1.2.13 and Windows XP-MCE 2005. I have two sources set up, one for the QAM half and one for the analog. I use MCEEPG2XMLTV to use the Media Center guide data and produce a single xml file with both digital QAM and analog channels listed. Both sources are configured to use that single xml file. In config, both sources show all channels (digital and analog) as being available, but for the analog source I have checked off only analog channels (digitals are unchecked). In the QAM source I've only got the digital clear QAM checked (encrypted and analog are unchecked.
All of this works great, and after some fumbling, I think this is all correct. However, at various times I have made some mistakes. For example, I left some digital channels checked for the analog source and vice-versa, and I tried removing (deleting) some analog channels from the digital source, not realizing that this would also delete them from the analog source using the same EPG data.
With that background, on to issues:
First: Searches through the default search and the searchwiz plugin are finding shows in the unchecked channels (encrypted digital cable channels) These channels do not show on the guide screen. It's quite possible that these channels were populated with data during my first setup. Will this go away with time? Should I empty guide data in config? I've done that many times, but not since I got things figured out. I hesitate to do this again as unchecking the encrypted channels is quite time consuming, and I'm not sure if I'll have to do it again. There seem to be hundreds of them (channel numbers extend into the 700 range), including lots of music channels.
I suppose one way to ask this question is: When do channels get added to the guide database, when do those channels get populated with program data, and when do the channels get removed? (It occurs to me that this might be a MCEEPG2XMLTV question - do I need to process the XML file to eliminate channels before handing it over to GBPVR?)
Second: Pending recordings. I see a nice list of pending recordings, but as I scroll through, I see that there is a blank entry. Moving down, as the highlight arrives at this blank, it suddenly populates with the same data as the pending recording below, making it appear that I've got one show scheduled twice - same channel and time. As the cursor moves down one to the next position - same show, but below the pseudo blank, I still see those two identical entries, but when I move down one more entry to the next show, the "blank" for the previous show reappears as the same empty entry above. There are at least two of these in the pending area, both for the same show, but pending at different times. At this point, I'm not totally sure if this show is correctly recording (I have a suspicion that it is not, but I'm not sure) and I'm not sure if I've set it up with a recurring recording or single recording. (It's Tour de France cycling which plays multiple times with the same name on the same channel on the same day and on other days). Any thoughts on what I'm seeing?
hi - coreavc installed and used, then installed powerdvd8.
even though coreavc was selected as preferred mkv decoder, PVRX2 used the powerdvd decoder anyway (i can tell due to glitches on screen when using it).
i un-regsvr'd the powerdvd filter and all back to normal - just wanted to point out that the config setting didn't seem to take effect.
