As I understand it now, if the disk is full and a recording attempts to start it will fail. What about setting flag that would allow new programs to overwrite old programs unless the flag is set to "keep" or "lock"?

You see, a codec is not the same as a container format. Examples of video codecs are: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (DivX), Indeo5, 3ivx. Examples of container formats are: MPG, AVI, ASF.
Here is a sum-up of what I gleaned: MPEG format: (MPEG1 and MPEG2) Not very compressed, but good for streaming. (Because you can lose a frame and just pick up with a new one.)
AVI format (Divx and Divx4 as well as others) Better compression, not so good for streaming. Interleaved (where video and audio are mixed together) is better than non.
Codecs
Video formats are then filled with Codecs. (MPEG2, Divx, H.264 can be read about here... http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/video-codecs.html Mpeg2 (What most video capture with onboard encoders use) seems to have low compression, but also very low CPU loads. Divx seems to have the best compression (smaller file size) to CPU decoding ratio. H.264 seems to have the best compression, but usually heavy loads on the CPU.

So... you've seen encoding and decoding... what does it mean?
Encoding - Taking video (from one source) and converting/compressing/whatever into a file/format using a codec.
Decoding - Reading the video from the file using the codec.
So, when looking for an encoder/decoder setup, you need to find a decoder that will decode (read) the files as they are encoded by your setup.
What you're looking at is Intervideo, FFMpeg, or others. This is software that looks at your video file, and selects/uses the codec to decode the file.
For instance, FFMpeg 'includes libavcodec, an audio/video codec library'
That's decoding.
Encoding is again with software, such as MEncoder, which uses codecs to encode or create your video files. One note, video capture cards often come with a hardware (chip) encoder that takes your video signal, and gives a stream to your computer which is then stored as a file, needing very little from your computer for the encoding.
I'd like to get Sub to fill me in a bit better on where VMR9, EVER, and Overlay Manager fit it. My understanding is that these are systems used by your computer to put the decoding images on your screen.

Edit: One thing to note, your PC can play anything you have a decoder and codec for. However, set-top devices (Like the MediaMVP) are sometimes limited in the codecs they can decode.

Ok, I missed a recording again. Last time the following error occured in my log, I thought some sort of hiccup happened, so I reinstalled the drivers for my nova-t (which had the failed recording). Don't know whether that was what fixed it, but after that it has worked. For like three days. Now it happened again.
Do you know what the error indicates? Why could it be happening again so fast? Bad hardware?
Hi folks, I've just installed gbpvr, and it doesn't give me an option to use it as a recording source. The newest drivers from plextor are installed, as is windvd creator and the divx player bundle. The Plextor gocap application seems to work. What am I missing?
hi, just started ripping all my DVDs to HDD - currently in VOB format. Is there a way for the moviewiz plugin to search for the film info from the folder name rather than the file name or can I only use the plugin by ripping to iso?
I've been trying to follow the HIP wiki in GBPVR but have not got any success changing channels. I've decided to start fresh with the HIP config again.
This time, while following the wiki guide, I was only able to follow up till ' Adding GBPVR Commands to HIP'. When I click 'Add Value', a small window does open and asked a key press. When I pressed the 'play' button on my remote, there is no response though. I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Appreciate any help, thanks!
Edit: Managed to get pass the above and the 'play' button has been accepted. However, under 'System Keys/Predefined Keys', there is no 'Play' for me to select. There are the only ones available :
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Keyboard Emulator, On Screen Display, System Mute, Volume Down, Volume Up.
Under 'Remote I/O-Remote Key Map', I had selected MCE-Remote.hkm.
How are these 'System Keys/Predefined Keys' loaded from?
I am trying get get GBPVR v1.2.9 to be positioned correctly on my tv screen.
Right now both the top and bottom of the screen are cut off and there is a black bar to the left of the menu. I am using a MVP with a 32" Sharp Aquos tv.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Noob here, successfully installed and setup GB-PVR with my HDHomerun.
I've configured it correctly and have the silicondust set as my BDA device. Also I am using the XMLTV Plugin with a newly created xml file by zap2xml. I've updated the EPG, then I mapped digital channels to EPG. When in the 'digital channel mapping' config window and selecting 'channels found during scan' at the right I can view and listen to the selected channels in the small window without an issue.
However, when opening PVRX2 I click on 'Live TV' and the screen just blinks quickly yet nothing happens and the menu is still depicted. Next, when I click 'TV Guide' the program appears to change to the 'TV Guide' section and freezes with some of the text faded and becomes unresponsive with no video/audio and only showing this text faded out:
-Date and times are at the top of the screen
-Bottom left shows: "@showTitleSubtitle". beneath is: "@showDescription"
-Bottom right shows: "@duration"
