Pending list "cursor" spontaneously returns to top
Posted by: GoodGuys - 2006-10-06, 09:28 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hello,

My wife and I have noticed that when we are browsing through the Pending programs in Recording screen, the highlighted program would tend to randomly "jump" back to the top line.

We don't remember this happening in 97.* or before.

Also, to add details, we have seen this happen when we press down/up and also when we are not touching anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Analog capture source shows channels that don't belong
Posted by: GoodGuys - 2006-10-06, 09:25 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi all,

Symptoms: I've recently noticed a few cases where a recording that was supposed to record from the set-top box yielded a program from a different channel, that is only available on another capture source.

Setup:
* PVR350 recording off Analog RF only.
* PVR150 setup with 2 capture sources:
1. Recording from the same Analog RF as the 350.
2. Recording from the set-top box, with HaupBlast, etc.

I have only today figured it out. The 350's capture source channel list seems to include a few of the channels that are available off the STB. I have attached a screen capture before trying to delete these channels.
Notice that 407250000 is the correct manual frequency for HOTmovies which is an Analog channel. All the channels below it are only available off the STB!

I do not know if this happened during the upgrade from 96.12 to 97.* or in the recent upgrade to 98.8b.

Obviously, having these channels in the capture source meant that these channels appear to be available and recording 2 shows which we thought should conflict - produced no conflict, and recorded off HOTmovies instead.

I cannot delete the channels since I am in the middle of a recording now, but will post results after I try to.

  Weather plugin: force map update?
Posted by: capone - 2006-10-06, 09:06 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

I am still using the v0.96 version, and everything still works, except it only seems to get a new radar on load, and it doesn't loop. Is there a button to force the same get map that occurs when it starts?

I'm still not ready to move to 0.98 (just need enough free time), but I LOVE this plugin and would like to get as much use as long as I can.

  Blinky! - Need some testers!
Posted by: rwmech - 2006-10-06, 09:03 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (24)

I have developed a plug in where when a recording is taking place, the scroll lock key will flash.

How is this useful? Well I have a little keyboard receiver on the top of my TV. The computer is behind the TV. Thus, unless i'm looking right at the GBPVR screen I didnt know if I was recording anything. This little plugin will show you by flashing the scroll lock button repeatedly.

Can I get some feedback?

  Moving web servers
Posted by: sub - 2006-10-06, 08:40 PM - Forum: NextPVR Announcements - Replies (51)

I've just moved www.gbpvr.com and wiki to our new dedicated server hosting. You may noticed some downtime until your cached DNS entries for the old server expire. I can see from the logs that quite a few users have already made their way to the new server, even though its only been switched on for a few minutes.

The new server is fully dedicated$$$, so no more sharing CPU and other resources with other hosting customers. Hopefully this should give the much needed performance boost for the wiki.

Please let me know if you notice anything odd.

  MVP Crash after watching recording
Posted by: CK- - 2006-10-06, 07:22 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (5)

Hi there. After watching a recorded program on MVP, it crashed when the recording got to the end.
I have attached all logs.
Also in these log files should be another error where MVP was paused at the start f the same recording and the down key was pressed (by my daughter so I don't know exactly what she did) to try and see more of the program description that was on screen
Any help much appreciated as these occasional MVP crashes are spoiling enjoyment of a wonderful program.

ATSC Guide - HDTV with less horsepower
Posted by: rwmech - 2006-10-06, 04:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (60)

I'm hoping that sub makes this thread a sticky as I wanted to share my experience with developing an ATSC (HD) only system. I've seen others ask questions about ATSC/HDTV but I thought I'd take a moment to tie it all together. I'm hoping this gives anyone trying to do HD with GBPVR some heads up.

My installation from the get-go was a modest one. I didn't have a million bucks to throw into a PVR, just some spare parts and the purchase of the $39.99 Technisat Air2Pc card (eBay) and the Purvideo decoder $19.99. The rest I had already at the house.

Hardware Used:
Athlon XP 1600+ CPU
NVidia GeForce 5200 25MB Card (XFX Brand)
250GB Maxtor ATA-133 Drive
PC2700 Memory
Technisat Air2Pc (Generation 1) ATSC Card (BDA Driver)

Base Software Used:
NVidia Purevideo Decoder (formally DVD Decoder)
GBPVR v0.98.8
MS-DVR Mux

Though this I've learned a few things about ATSC and the setup above that I think will help everyone trying to get HD working (and working well) with their GBPVR setup.

Setting it up
1. Running v0.98.8
If your running v0.98.8 download the patches sub has put out at http://www.gbpvr.com/atsc-scan5.zip - This corrected my tuning (and many others) problem.

2. Decoding the HD signal requires a GOOD MPEG2 video decoder.

The Geforce 5200 (and above) models have hardware based decoding on the GPU. You can buy a 5200 card for $30 and because of the GPU the Purvideo decoder then offloads this from your CPU. When recording, and playing back under this scenario, I usually run around 60% CPU. 58% of that is the playback only 2% is recording.

I found that the Cyberlink decoder didn't do as good of a job. It used more CPU and couldn't take advantage of the GPU.

Don't be surprised if your video ends up choppy if you're running at near 100% CPU.

3. Mux settings.

Once again cyberlink mux didn't work as well as MS-DVR. Several threads here indicate that MS-DVR is the way to go, I agree. I get much better mileage from MS-DVR than .MPEG using cyberlink.

4. Antenna

I ran into some problems which I thought were hardware or GBPVR based with tuning. The fact of the matter is that this has a HUGE impact on your ability to get good HD signal. Some of this applies to general HDTV viewing not just recording. If you're serious about your setup there are 2 pages I suggest reading.

http://www.tvtower.com/hdtv_antenna_and_reception.html is written by a former Assistant Chief Engineer at a television station. This outlines that you shouldn't be using an amplifier as it can really hurt your signal. It also addresses issues in HDTV signal that many people may relate to GBPVR but are actually signal problems (as in my case). Skips, and choppy video can be interference not GBPVR, your Decoder or your CPU. This by far corrected many of my ATSC Tuner problems.

http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx is a great site for tuning up your HDTV antenna. This allows you to actually adjust it for the direction and location you are at. Great information. This alone increased my reception by pointing in the most accurate direction.

If you have issues with "Choppy video", "Pixilization" and "Gaps in recording" it may be your antenna setup. Even though your "TV" may have good reception, I have found that tuner cards don't employ the same quality in signal filtering that a good TV will.

Recordings

1. Make sure you have drive space!

Recording in my area usually range around 6.7GB per hour (HD Quality). This can quickly eat up a hard drive. Be prepared to delete recordings when you are done.

2. SD takes up less space

Know which channels are transmitting in SD. If you record SD it's considerably less space than HD.

3. Defragment

If you don't defrag your drive and you record often, you can see issues with recordings.
http://www.compu-docs.com/W2KDfrag.htm is a great article on scheduling defragmentation at "off hours". Pick a good time when they are running infomercials!

Hope this helps someone I've got a lot of hours tied up getting this running. You can get HD for less money!

  GBPVR can't detect pvr 150
Posted by: gwerstiuk - 2006-10-06, 03:56 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (32)

Having trouble configuring GBPVR. When I select "Only show devices on this machine" it only gives me the option of pvr 250 or 350 (neither of which I have). When I ran the device check utility it produced this log file

09:28:45.189 INFO Log started
09:28:45.189 VERBOSE ECP interface found

09:28:45.189 INFO Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture: model 26132
09:28:45.199 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
09:28:45.199 ERROR Failed to find requested device: Hauppauge PVR150 (instance 2)

Yet when I can use WINTV 2000 without any issues. At least confirming the card is functional.

I've re-installed the drivers from fresh. And GBPVR once. Nothing seems to help.

Any ideas? Thanks

Trouble installing with Freecom DVB-T USB stick
Posted by: JRD - 2006-10-06, 03:13 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hi
I have a Freecom DVB-T working OK with the supplied software app.
Now I have installed GB-PVR, and have tried to set it up as follows:
In the configurator:
Create capture Source; 'BDA recording plugin'; Settings: Device: Freecom DVB Type 2.
Selected my local transmitter, and updated the EPG.
The channel list is now visible.
'Map digital channels to EPG channels' produces an error:
'GP-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly, and not already in use.'

Any ideas? Doinf something wrong?
