I would like to know how to manage the recordings, I notice considerable differences depending on how they are started.
I understand that it is not a priority thing but I would like to point out the following for any improvements to this function.
1) by CTRL-K from EPG: being EPG useless in IT (not or poorly managed and useless to update) all items are "(no show details)", so that is the name for recording and going to Update there is no way to change neither the Name nor the Time (it assumes from 1 to 30 minutes depending from the time it has been started, see att.) output file example: "(no show details) _2020-06-19_18301900.ts" Is there any way to handle the problem?
2) by Ctrl-K from LiveTV: after Ctrl-K we get a recording window from wich only Time is editable (not even the name), then going to MainMenu>Recordings>Pending Recordings we can change the Time and the Name too (see att.NPVRscr2) but the .ts stored file remain with the "Default" initial name output file example: "Manual Recordings\Default_2020-06-19_17401840 "
3) by Man-Rec: here we can change Name and Time and the stored file gets OK output file example: "Manual Recordings\myname_2020-06-19_17501900.ts"
Finally, to conclude the argument, the ideal would be the classic "fire" red-button on the command bar in the pop-up window to quickly start/stop a recording.
It is a very useful function, commonly present in this kind of programs, which allows you to record a TV program while you are watching it.
Normally, it is also possible to change the duration of the recording already started and in progress if the default is insufficient.
I've edited my config file so that Skip Forward is 60s. This change only appears to work when using the mouse and clicking the skip. My harmony remote is programmed as WMC. When using it, the skip only goes forward 10s no matter what the value is in config file. Same applies to Skip Back. Works fine in v4. Using windows client.
I was examining the logs from recent activity and would like to know about several things that I noticed and thought it out of the ordinary.
In NRecord.log:
1) At 2020-06-18 12:09:52.265, numerous error messages accumulate there and several areas further into the log:
At 2020-06-18 19:59:08.327
At 2020-06-18 20:59:03.833
At 2020-06-18 22:59:01.877
2) At 2020-06-18 22:59:00.177, the system appears to search for the recording folder with the largest amount of available storage. Will the system use the results of that search to set the recording folder? If so, I wish to disable this behavior and was able to do so in V4. What is the V5 equivalent?
3) At 2020-06-18 21:01:00.104, this message appears:
[ERROR][9] writer.Close() did not complete in a timely fashion.
Is this something that should be tracked or looked at?
There are other errors appearing and some of them are mine that I'm trying to fix.
there is communication with the hdhomerun, i have channels, live video, and have been able to record a snippet by time.
The mac is 10.10.10.250, and the hdhomerun is 10.10.10.248.
One slight oddity I noticed was that changing the EPG timeout in DVB/ATSC EPG setup doesn't appear to save, and the window does not close.
I changed that to 480 directly in the xml.
I enabled verbose logs and ran the epg.
I looked at the hdhomerun status, and I could not see a tuner being used.
Tuner 0 was already busy because I had paused a playback some time ago.
Thanks for looking. I changed DVDVB/ATSC EPG Setup
B/ATSC EPG Setup
Eventually I will need to migrate off of v4 and onto v5. I've run v5 a bit in a docker and it works well. My hangup is comskip/comclean. I understand there is a docker file to create an image with comskip available. I'd really prefer some sort of comclean option that just removes the commercials completely since I sometimes watch shows not in the nvpr interface.
Is there a good PostProcessing option that can cut out the commercials completely? I'd prefer either linux or docker, but if windows is the only way I could make it work.
I think I'm ready to upgrade from v4 to v5, but I'm not sure what clients to use.
Currently I have a v4 server, and several Windows 10 machines around the house using nextpvr.exe configured as a client.
This thread: https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59473
states that the v5 windows client "will only connect to a NextPVR server running on the same machine".
The thread is almost a year old though - is this still the case?
If yes - I have questions about the other options.
- Is nlite working well on v5 when running on Windows and talking to a server on a different PC?
- Using Kodi on clients is an option, but are either the official addon or knewc capable of watching in progress recordings and properly dealing with a growing file?
(Starting to watch a show that's still recording and catching up to live is almost a daily occurence for me.)
And a further question about remote controls - I'm currently using the SendMessage method (32775,x,x) with Eventghost to control nextpvr.exe - is this still going to work with v5?
I get zero length recordings now and again. Logs say "No errors, but no data delivered". I think it occurs after resuming from sleep. If I get the error I reboot PC and then all is well for a week or two. Logs attached.
I just noticed that the desktop app does not remember what channel group to display after selecting Channels from a screen right-click. The selected group in the channel list dialog is never remembered. This selection should be remembered from session to session of the desktop app.
