GBPVR and Haup 43 button remote.
Posted by: jkbanman - 2005-11-09, 08:23 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I doesnt work. I clicked the fix for the 43 button remote. restarted the ir program in the system tray nothing seemed to work. What are you supposed to be able to do with the remote. Can you start the GBPVR like you can with wintv. Will it navigate thru the menus. I ask cuz I wanna make sure I am not expecting too much out of the remote. (I would like to stop using the mouse as the remote). Thanks in advance for your help

Sudden restarts NOVA-T USB and PVR350
Posted by: Dom - 2005-11-09, 07:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (13)

I have a PC with a HAUPPAUGE PVR350 card inside it, and have recently added a HAUPPAUGE NOVA-T USB2.

I have read that others have had conflicts between the two - and I have completely stripped the NOVA-T from my system and reinstalled it, but I am still getting sudden restarts.

It happened last night, in the middle of the night, when GB-PVR was trying to record something.

here are some extracts from my logs:

The system died and restarted at 02:18 and then again at 02:35. There were similar files to these when the recording restarted.

The events in my System event log were event ID 6009 & 6005 at 02:18:17 and 02:35:32. I've read somewhere that the 6009 events can be caused by hardware driver problems.
There is a 230Mb file for this program with datre modified of 02:32

Can anyone offer help - I figure that the new device and conflicts with the old one is causing some kind of crash...

Thanks, Dom

  GBPVR is excellent
Posted by: bstempel - 2005-11-09, 06:30 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I know this is a support forum, but I just wanted to say I've had very few problems with GBPVR over the last few months. I started using it in July, and have had some issues along the way, but I believe many were due to a beta driver I downloaded from Hauppauge, when I rolled back to their latest stable driver, all was fine. I am lucky to have a wife that is quite patient with the system, and she's been very happy as well of late. Thanks again sub! Well done!

I have never been able to watch so much Star Trek : TNG that my eyes hurt, this is just awesome.

  Dlink DVC-1000 - opinions?
Posted by: groover km - 2005-11-09, 05:57 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Hi all,

I am considering getting a D-Link DVC-1000 video conferencing gizmo, so that we can talk to friends and family over the pond in comfort, rather than having to cluster around the pc in the office like we currently do,

I've read all the reviews I can find and I'm maybe 80% sold (at least, the shortfalls described I can live with), but I wondered if any of you guys had any first-hand experience?

Thanks in advance!

gbpvr playback not using specified decoder
Posted by: fiteclub - 2005-11-09, 05:55 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

While using gbpvr in live tv mode things work just fine. I have set to use the nvidia decoders in the config program and use the encoder passthru option. Its nice that you can always verify that the nvidia encoder is being used since it opens an icon in the windows taskbar and sure enough it is there during live tv.

If I now close live tv and play a recorded show, the nvidia decoder is NOT being used eventhough I have specified its use as noted above. While working on this problem I rendered the recorded tv show mpeg using graphedit. The screen shot is attached. You will notice that it is using ffdshow mpeg4 video decoder for some reason! I thought all of these recorded shows were in mpeg 2 format. I do not have the "use ffdshow for post processing" checkbox checked in the config program. Am I doing something stupid (I don't know a lot about codecs and how to use them) I have also attached gbprv.exe-native.log and gbprvrecordingservice.exe-native.log files.

Any ideas on what is going on?

Bill

  Improving performance...
Posted by: steves - 2005-11-09, 05:50 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (22)

Folks,

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve the performance of GB-PVR?

The problem is I'm using GBPVR exclusively thru an MVP and on a very low powered box (800Mhz C3 256MB RAM). Recently it's got to the point where the MVP does a "contacting servers..." after virtually every other button press! I reckon this is probably due to the oh so clever hauppauge MVP timeout feature....

Anyway I figure one way "around" this is to tune up GBPVR for max performance...

So any suggestions?

I thought of:

1) Get more RAM.
2) Clean up the database? HOW? What do I get rid of?
3) Tune the database? Enable indexing?
4) Remove dead channels?
5) EmptyEPG?
6) Up the priority on the GBPVR.exe process?

Anyone done any tuning to get GBPVR to speed up a bit?
(No suggestions of get a more powerful CPU please! I like my silence...)

Cheers

Steve

  Front End Feature Comparison Chart
Posted by: hobbes487 - 2005-11-09, 05:44 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi all!

I am working on a feature comparision chart for a large list of front ends. I personally have not used gbpvr, so I am looking for someone who knows the product well and would be able to fill out my template for gbpvr. If anyone would like to help out with the gpvr section, please email me at htpcsw@gmail.com

Once the chart is complete it will be posted over at htpcsw.com

Thanks!

  Couple of questions..
Posted by: BobBuilder - 2005-11-09, 05:39 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Does the deinterlacing option on the Misc tab have any effect when using Nova-t USB device?
(I guess this would actually apply to any BDA card)

What are the pro / cons of using "direct access to haupage remote" ?
I have the 45 button haupage remote, and am not using direct access.
I don’t have any problems it works fine, I'm just curious.

thanks

  Comskip automation over four harddrives
Posted by: Richard - 2005-11-09, 05:30 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (3)

Does anyone have a batch file that they can post that runs comskip on files that have not had comskip run on them?

I am looking for a batch file that can go through four hard drives searching all shows that are stored alphabetically in separate folders for each show. Then determine if a show has had comskip run on it, if not, run the comskip.exe on the program and then move onto the next show and stop after searching all four hard drives.

  CDK Req: Priority alerts
Posted by: capone - 2005-11-09, 04:55 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (9)

I just realized that the priorities work well, but they don't tell you that they are being done. This is only an issue in I just figured out some things weren't recording because CDK does a good job handling it.

I would love to see alerts or messages of some kind that it's doing it's magic, though. At least that way I would know I'm not getting cetains shows, and can track them down or reconsider the priority if the lesser show will not repeat, and the higher show will.

Maybe it can just report them in conflicts, or just highlight schedules that overlap.
